I was embarrassed by a remark from actress Son Sook, the maternal grandmother of Ha Ye-rin, the lead of Bridgerton 4.
At the end of the cable channel tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block that aired the afternoon of the 11th, a preview of next week's guests was released.
Through the preview released that day, Ha Ye-rin's appearance was announced. Yu Jae-seok introduced Ha Ye-rin as "the lead of Bridgerton 4 that ranked No. 1 in 82 countries." Yu Jae-seok asked, "They say she's the first East Asian female lead, and that there are settings changed to be more Korean, right?" and Ha Ye-rin answered, "Confidently," which drew attention.
Son Sook was also present at Ha Ye-rin's recording. Ha Ye-rin had previously been known as Son Sook's maternal granddaughter. Yu Jae-seok asked Son Sook, "How did you find Bridgerton 4?" and Son Sook trailed off, saying, "There are some somewhat racy scenes..."
Startled by Son Sook's unexpected answer, Ha Ye-rin laughed awkwardly and asked, "Grandma, did you watch all of that? Didn't you look away?"
At the official press conference for Bridgerton 4 held on the 4th, Ha Ye-rin also spoke about Son Sook's reaction, saying, "Grandma watched the whole work. She sent a photo, and it seemed she watched it with her juniors. My grandmother's eyesight is poor. She watched it close to the TV and texted, 'I'm proud of you. I love you,' which felt warm and bittersweet," and added, "My grandmother saw the nude scenes and said she was a bit surprised."
Son Sook also expressed her hurt, saying, "(After the Bridgerton audition) ten days passed and there was no contact. I wondered, 'How should I console her?' but she just didn't tell me," which made Ha Ye-rin flustered again and hesitant, saying, "Wait a moment." Son Sook added, "I didn't speak to their mother for a month," which drew laughter.
Ha Ye-rin played the role of Sophie, the female lead, in the Netflix original series Bridgerton 4.
