HYBE-Geffen Records' global girl group KATSEYE won a major category trophy at the Japan Gold Disc Award, proving strong local popularity.
According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan on the 11th, KATSEYE was selected as the New Artist of the Year (Western Artist category) at the 40th Japan Gold Disc Award. They were also named among the Best 2 New Artists (Western Artist category), which picks the top two acts in album sales, digital downloads and streaming counts, giving them two awards in total.
KATSEYE's six members (Daniella, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, Yoonchae) expressed their gratitude through their agency, saying, "We sincerely thank you for loving and supporting our music," and added, "We want to visit Korea and Japan again to create more special moments."
The Japan Gold Disc Award is a prestigious music awards ceremony hosted by the Recording Industry Association of Japan since 1987. In particular, the New Artist of the Year has been awarded in the past to pop star Olivia Rodrigo and British rock band The Last Dinner Party, making it the highest honor in the rookie category.
KATSEYE visited Japan during an Asian promotion tour shortly after their 2024 debut to connect with fans. Later, in August last year they performed at Japan's largest music festival, Summer Sonic 2025, in Tokyo, presenting hits such as Gnarly, Gabriela and Touch, thrilling tens of thousands of spectators.
On the U.S. Billboard 200 chart published March 14, KATSEYE's second EP BEAUTIFUL CHAOS was at No. 113. The album, which peaked at No. 4 on the chart (July 12, 2025), has now charted for 36 consecutive weeks. Earlier, KATSEYE also achieved notable results on Billboard's main song chart the Hot 100 with Gabriela (No. 21), Internet Girl (No. 29) and Gnarly (No. 82).
KATSEYE was formed through the audition project The Debut: Dream Academy, based on the K-pop methodology, and is cited as a representative success case of the multi-home, multi-genre strategy led by HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk. They will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.
