Singer Nam Tae-hyun's court hearing related to drunk driving will resume.
according to legal sources, on the 12th afternoon the Seoul Western District Court, criminal division 11 (single judge) will hold the second court hearing for Nam Tae-hyun, who is charged with violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and other charges. The hearing had originally been scheduled for Jan. 15 but was postponed.
Earlier, Nam Tae-hyun is accused of on April 27 crashing into a central divider near Dongjak-daero in the direction of Ilsan on Gangbyeonbuk-ro while trying to pass the car ahead.
There were no casualties, and Nam Tae-hyun's blood alcohol concentration was reported to be at or above the license-revocation level of 0.08%. He was also driving at 182 km/h, far exceeding the road's speed limit of 80 km/h.
It was particularly controversial because Nam Tae-hyun was reportedly serving a suspended sentence related to drug use at the time.
At the first hearing in December last year, Nam Tae-hyun drew attention when he answered the court's question about his occupation by saying, "I am currently an office worker." When asked whether he admitted all the charges, Nam Tae-hyun answered, "Yes."
Meanwhile, this is Nam Tae-hyun's second drunk-driving incident. He is accused of drunk driving at about 3:30 a.m. in March 2023 in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul. According to police, after drinking with acquaintances he called for a designated driver, but while waiting he moved his vehicle about 5 meters to repark it, blocking his acquaintances' parked cars.
In the process, while opening the door of his parked car he collided with a passing taxi and damaged the taxi's right side mirror, and they reached a settlement. However, Nam Tae-hyun then drove the vehicle himself, and a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.114%, exceeding the license-suspension level. As a result, Nam Tae-hyun received a summary order of a 6 million won fine.
