Sung Si Kyung is set to appear as the ninth host of The Seasons, and netizens are divided after the new title was revealed.
On the 11th, KBS said, "KBS 2TV music talk show The Seasons will premiere its ninth season with the title The Seasons-Sung Si Kyung's eardrum boyfriend on March 27."
This title was confirmed as "Sung Si Kyung's eardrum boyfriend," reflecting his well-known epithet as the "ballad emperor," since he has been loved for his unique tone and emotion in the music industry.
The original "eardrum boyfriend" will introduce new "eardrum boyfriends" and "eardrum girlfriends," with stages unfolding every Friday night, promising a special healing time that blends music and talk.
However, netizens reacted coldly after the new title was revealed. Some wrote, "What era of eardrum boyfriend is this?", "There are so many four-character song titles by Sung Si Kyung... to discard them all for 'eardrum boyfriend'?", "supply without demand", "a 10-year-old sensibility", "seriously outdated sensibility", "They could have just done 'It Would Be Good', 'Every Moment', or 'Smile Angel' and it would have been fine," and similar responses.
But some said, "The idea that the original eardrum boyfriend would introduce new eardrum boyfriends and eardrum girlfriends was good," "Anyway, it's always called The Seasons so the title doesn't matter much," and "Is it that strange?"
Meanwhile, The Seasons is the first late-night KBS music talk show to adopt a seasonal MC format, and since 2023 Park Jaebeom, Choi Junghun (Jannabi), AKMU, Lee Hyori, Zico, Lee Youngji, Park Bo Gum, and 10cm have taken turns as MCs. With a different MC each season, the show has continued as a leading late-night music talk show in Korea by presenting diverse music stories.
