MC Dingdong (Heo Yong-un), a broadcaster who caused controversy over a drunk driving and hit-and-run incident, once again became the center of controversy after assaulting a female BJ during an internet live broadcast.
On the 11th, online communities and the broadcasting industry reported that MC Dingdong assaulted a female BJ after getting into an argument with her during a recent internet broadcast.
The broadcast at the time was conducted in the so-called "excel broadcast" format. An excel broadcast is an internet broadcast that organizes the support rankings of grants BJ like an Excel sheet to induce competition among viewers for donations.
The incident began when the female BJ, while performing a rap, mentioned MC Dingdong's past drunk driving and hit-and-run incident in a mocking manner. Enraged, MC Dingdong stood up, rushed at the female BJ, grabbed her hair and assaulted her, and the scene was broadcast live as it happened.
The sudden situation left the other participants flustered, and MC Dingdong, who left the scene immediately after the assault, briefly stepped away before returning in front of the camera to apologize. He shed tears and said, "I apologize for showing unprofessional behavior. I apologize again to the viewers and the BJ," and explained, "I can take other insults, but the moment I heard the '2-year-ago incident' I had a trauma and thought of the children and lost my temper."
MC Dingdong also again mentioned his past drunk driving incident. He choked up and said, "For a year and a half I had not had a single job, and I was just trying to show that I'm working hard again. Hearing those remarks..." He added, "I will never drink and drive again," bowing his head repeatedly.
Earlier, MC Dingdong was arrested on charges of driving a vehicle in a severely intoxicated state near Hawolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul in 2022, refusing police breath testing and fleeing. At the time, an accident occurred in which he collided with a police car, and he was indicted on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and special obstruction of official duties causing injury, and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a two-year suspension of execution.
A former comedian recruited in SBS's ninth class, he was once called "the pre-show MC's number one" and "the pre-show MC's Yu Jae-seok" and received many offers for various events, but after the incident he stepped down from pre-show MC roles on KBS2's Immortal Songs and Yoo Hee-yeol's Sketchbook. Recently, he also returned by joining as a pre-show MC for "King of Singers season 3".
