MC Dingdong was sued by the victim BJ amid controversy after allegedly assaulting a female BJ during an internet broadcast.
On the 10th, BJ A, who had been assaulted by MC Dingdong, posted a notice on an online community detailing the situation at the time of the controversy.
A said regarding having cursed at MC Dingdong under viewers' donation instructions, "(After receiving donations) the three of us were cursing, and that part was something the MC okayed. Also, he often used the incident from two years ago as comedy material," she explained. Regarding being assaulted, she said, "I was the one he disrespected the most, and he said my voice came through clearly. My hair is a bad hairstyle so the grip felt good, which might have contributed," she added.
However, she clarified that the cracking sound that occurred immediately after MC Dingdong grabbed her hair while the camera was turned away was "not the sound of him hitting me but the sound of him throwing the microphone and breaking office items." She said, "Honestly, I was so angry I couldn't compose myself after the broadcast and made a fuss about filing a complaint. Still, viewers calmed me down a lot, and because I loved the channel, if there had been a sincere apology I wouldn't have thought about pursuing charges. But when I saw the phrase 'you were reckless but I was reckless too' I decided to go ahead with the complaint," she said.
She said, "The agency is doing its best to support me and the situation is gradually being sorted out. I'm currently receiving psychiatric counseling for PTSD and panic, and the injury report indicates a two-week recovery period," adding, "As for the current situation, I hired a lawyer the day before yesterday (the 8th) and the complaint was filed yesterday (the 9th). (MC Dingdong's side) offered a settlement of 10 million won, which is relatively large for a simple assault, but I rejected it," informing that she had already completed the complaint procedures against MC Dingdong.
She said, "From the lawyer's perspective a settlement for a simple assault is advisable, but currently I am refusing. Many viewers also feel a settlement would be beneficial, and the agency seems to want that too, so we are considering it. MC has continued to send apology texts, but I asked him to contact me through the lawyer," adding, "The complaint has already been filed and we will consider whether to settle depending on the ruling."
She added, "It was my first time on an Excel stream so I admit I said a lot of thoughtless things. I'm sorry. It shouldn't have been like a personal broadcast, and I apologize for that."
On the 7th, MC Dingdong appeared on an internet program in the form of an "Excel broadcast" alongside various BJs including A. An Excel broadcast organizes appearing BJs' donation rankings like an Excel sheet to incite donation competition among viewers. During this process, A, following viewers' donation instructions, was doing a cursing rap at MC Dingdong and mentioned his past controversy by saying, "that b------ who had that incident two years ago is a b------."
Upon hearing this, MC Dingdong suddenly turned serious, grabbed A's hair and shook her. A, startled, sank to the floor with her hair still held, and one BJ urgently shouted, "Get the camera away." The camera soon panned elsewhere, and meanwhile MC Dingdong loudly threw the microphone and left the studio. Afterwards the BJs managed the situation and continued the broadcast, and when MC Dingdong reappeared he tearfully apologized, saying, "I can accept other insults, but hearing about the incident two years ago triggered trauma and I thought of my children so I snapped. For one and a half years I had no work at all and was only just starting to show I'm trying hard when suddenly that came up. I will never drink and drive again. I'm sorry once more."
But afterwards A, amid pouring criticism, expressed her painful feelings and on the 9th said she had proceeded with the complaint against MC Dingdong and would continue to do so, adding, "I can't possibly settle, especially thinking of my mother, and I am also a precious daughter," signaling a tough stance.
Meanwhile, MC Dingdong told a media outlet, "Because of that incident I was removed from all the programs I was appearing on. I did delivery work, courier work and even went to hospitals. Being insulted by someone I don't even know made me react impulsively," and said, "They crossed the line by touching my biggest shame and trauma. It's my fault for poor emotional control." OSEN attempted to contact MC Dingdong's side about the matter but could not reach them.
Separately, MC Dingdong was arrested in 2022 on charges of driving a vehicle in a heavily intoxicated state near Hawolgok-dong in Seongbuk District, Seoul, after refusing police alcohol testing and fleeing. At the time he even rammed a police car, and he was indicted on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and injury to a public official while obstructing official duties, receiving a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
