A top domestic musical actor was investigated by police on charges of sexually assaulting a woman and was referred to the prosecution, and news emerged that the actor was Nam Kyung-ju.
On the 11th, according to MBN and Dispatch, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station noncustodially transferred Nam Kyung-ju to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office last month on charges of rape by force.
Nam Kyung-ju committed the crime against a woman identified as A at a location in Seoul last year, and the victim escaped the scene and reported it to the police. It is reported that the police who responded to the scene took the case.
The police summoned Nam Kyung-ju for questioning, and based on related statements and evidence judged the charges to be substantiated and referred the case to the prosecution. However, Nam Kyung-ju is reported to have strongly denied the allegations raised during the police investigation.
Nam Kyung-ju told Dispatch, "It is true that an investigation is currently underway," but declined to comment on specific details of the allegations.
As of the afternoon of the 11th, Nam Kyung-ju's personal social media accounts were confirmed to be closed. Previously Nam Kyung-ju had continued interacting through social media, but closed the accounts without offering any specific statement.
Meanwhile, Nam Kyung-ju debuted in the 1984 musical "Forgy and Beth" and went on to appear in numerous works. He currently holds the position of associate professor in the department of performing arts at Hongik University.
