With the film The King's Warden approaching 12 million viewers, revision work is underway on the tiger CG scene that had been regarded as a blemish in the film.
On the 10th, a representative of the film The King's Warden (director Jang Hang-jun, provided/distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by Onda Works·BA Entertainment) told OSEN that regarding the GV-improved edit of the tiger appearance scene in the film, "The CG company is working on it internally because they want to reflect an improved version later, even at the time of IPTV release," the official position said.
The recently and popularly released The King's Warden is a film set in 1457 Cheongryeongpo that tells the story of a village headman who volunteered for exile to revive the village and a young dethroned king who was banished to exile. In particular, the film recently surpassed 10 million viewers and, as of this morning (the 10th), surpassed a cumulative audience of about 11.7 million, earning its place as a "10 million film."
Among Korean releases, the birth of a "10 million film" comes about two years after the release of The Roundup: Punishment in May 2024. As a result, expectations for the final box office score of The King's Warden are heating up inside and outside the film industry.
However, apart from the film's success, the tiger CG scene in the film was regarded as a blemish. The completion level of that CG scene drew many dissatisfied reactions, saying things like "it looks cheap" and "it feels like an old movie," separate from satisfaction with the work. In fact, there had been talk about the CG within the film production team before the film's release, but it was decided that not missing the Lunar New Year holiday release period was more important, so it opened as scheduled.
In this context, the CG company has stepped in and is carrying out improvement work. However, it is uncertain whether the improved scenes will be reflected in theaters currently showing the film. In this regard, a SHOWBOX representative told OSEN that the CG company is also working with the goal of releasing additional rights such as IPTV and that "it is currently undecided how it will be reflected in the film."
Nevertheless, every move of The King's Warden, even the CG editing process, is drawing attention. With a craze for repeat viewings, interest in The King's Warden is expected to remain strong. As a result, attention will continue to focus on the film's box office score.
