Actor Park Mi-hyun renewed her career-defining role with Undercover Miss Hong.
The tvN weekend drama Undercover Miss Hong, in which Park Mi-hyun appeared, drew to a close on the 8th. In the drama, Park Mi-hyun played Song Ju-ran, the chief secretary and right-hand person to Chairman Kang Pil-beom of Hanmin Securities. She portrayed a character who would stop at nothing to commit any evil for Hanmin Securities, depicting the most powerful villain who led the war against Hong Geum-bo (Park Shin-hye) and her gang.
Especially in the episodes broadcast on the 7th and 8th, Park Mi-hyun's performance stood out. Until then she had appeared to support Kang No-ra (Choi Ji-su) as Kang Pil-beom's successor, but a shocking twist revealed that she was the mastermind who, together with subordinate Bong Dal-su (Kim Roe-ha), had orchestrated Kang No-ra's kidnapping, surprising viewers.
In the following developments, Song Ju-ran spared no means or method to try to win the war against the "Yeouido pirate crew" led by Hong Geum-bo, but ultimately was defeated and sought to flee. Song Ju-ran, who believed she controlled every situation, realized she had been a pawn playing on Kang Pil-beom's palm and, through a conversation with Hong Geum-bo who saved her, bitterly regretted using the women who admired her in the past and wept tears of repentance in an ending that maximized the drama's immersion.
Park Mi-hyun once again left a strong impression with stable and three-dimensional acting in this work. In particular, her flawless portrayal of a 1990s chief secretary and her realistic villainous performance received high praise from viewers, raising great anticipation about what project Park Mi-hyun will take on next.
Through her agency Dawn Entertainment, Park Mi-hyun said that taking on the villain Song Ju-ran, who dressed in period makeup and committed all sorts of evil acts in this work, was an especially meaningful experience, adding that the character also had a pitiable side and that as a middle-aged actress she was truly grateful to be given such a gift-like role. She said she cried at the thought that she can no longer see Song Ju-ran every week.
