Broadcaster Shin Dong-yeob recalled a childhood of poverty.
On the 9th, a video titled "Are we filial children!? NO! My Ugly Duckling Ju Jihoon Ha Jiwon Nana" was uploaded to the "Zzanbro Shin Dong-yeob" channel.
That day on "Zzanbro," the lead actors of the ENA drama "Climax," Ju Jihoon, Ha Jiwon and Nana, appeared as guests and talked. Then Shin Dong-yeob said, "Jihoon has no creases. Then generally kids from somewhat wealthy families have no creases," and Ju Jihoon said, "Our household was harmonious. Not financially harmonious, but the mood was harmonious."
Then Shin Dong-yeob empathized, saying, "My family was like that too. That's what matters," and added, "(Our) father was a school teacher, but when my grandfather's business failed, the inherited debt had to be paid with 50% of his salary until retirement. I didn't know," and said, "We were truly harmonious, but we were very, very financially struggling... But wasn't that common in the past?" as he recalled the heartbreaking past.
To that, Ju Jihoon said, "It was like that in my neighborhood too, and until I was 9 the bathroom was outside the house. We heated water in a big green trash can with briquettes, washed once or twice a week, and it was really fun," and Shin Dong-yeob expressed agreement, saying, "I know that very well."
Ju Jihoon sheepishly said, "Talking like this makes me sound like an old-timer," and recounted an episode, "We tore calendar pages and rubbed them to use as (toilet paper)," and Shin Dong-yeob, surprised, asked, "You did that too?" and offered an insight: "You know that? There is a philosophy of life there. The more you rub, the softer it becomes. But if you rub more to make it softer, it will develop holes. That's greed."
