A psychiatrist and broadcaster, Yang Jae-woong, who ran a clinic, was the subject of a prosecutor's request for supplementary investigation in connection with a patient death that occurred at the hospital.
On the 9th, according to legal sources, the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office Bucheon Branch requested the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency to conduct supplementary investigations related to the case.
The subjects of the supplementary investigation included seven medical staff at the hospital, and it was reported that Yang Jae-woong, the hospital director, was also included. The charges subject to supplementary investigation applied to Yang Jae-woong total four, including death by professional negligence and violation of the Act on the Improvement of Mental Health and the Support for Welfare Services for Mental Patients.
Earlier, the police handed over 12 hospital officials to the prosecutors in October last year in connection with the case. Among them, five people, including the attending physician, a person surnamed A in their 40s, and four nurses, were indicted in November of the same year.
A and others are accused of causing the death of a woman in her 30s, a patient identified as B, who complained of abdominal pain on May 27, 2024, by failing to provide appropriate medical treatment.
According to the prosecution's investigation, medical staff did not properly check the side effects of the antipsychotic medication administered to B and did not sufficiently observe her progress. It was also found that after isolating B, who complained of pain, in a stabilization room, there were circumstances in which her hands and feet were bound or she was neglected.
B, who had been hospitalized for treatment of diet drug addiction, died of acute pseudo‑intestinal obstruction 17 days after admission.
A prosecution official said the case is currently investigating, so the specific reasons for requesting supplementary investigation cannot be disclosed.
Meanwhile, in connection with the case, the attending physician A was arrested and indicted on charges of death by professional negligence but was recently granted bail and is reported to be standing trial while not in custody. The hospital reportedly received administrative sanctions after the incident and entered closure procedures.
The case also affected Yang Jae-woong's private life. He had promised to marry Hanni of the group EXID, but after the incident he indefinitely postponed the wedding.
