According to the police who handled the case, Woo Bong-sik suffered financial hardship during his life and was in difficult economic circumstances, and he was known to have been taking antidepressant medication.
Woo Bong-sik debuted as a child actor in 1983 at age 13 through the MBC drama "3840 guerrilla unit." He appeared in the dramas "Dae Joyeong", "City Hunter", "Eun-hee", "Giant", "Rural Diary", "Three Days" and the films "Even the Sky Has Sorrow", "Siren", "Plastic Tree", "Diary of June", "Because I Love You, It's Okay."
After appearing in "Dae Joyeong" in 2007, he was unable to land notable roles and was known to have made a living working as an interior day laborer.
After news of Woo Bong-sik's death was reported, Realies Pictures CEO Won Dong-yeon wrote on social media, "In 2001 I cast an unknown actor in a film I was producing. He wanted to buy me a drink at a street stall to thank me for casting him. I hesitated but accepted his gesture. That actor passed away the day before yesterday. I resent myself for bringing him into this field. Woo Bong-sik, be happy in heaven," expressing his condolences.
