Actor Oh Hyunkyung choked up remembering the hardships her daughter, who went to study alone in the United States, must have endured.
On the 6th, a video titled "I met Oh Hyunkyung, Jung Si-a's 16-year close friend—Jung Si-a·Oh Hyunkyung's real conversation" was uploaded to the "Jung Si-a Asijung" channel.
That day Jung Si-a met with Oh Hyunkyung and talked about parenting. During the conversation Oh Hyunkyung mentioned Seo-woo's outstanding drawing skills, saying, "Seo-woo wrote me a letter and a postcard. Seo-woo really draws well. I placed it right at the head of the bed like this. I didn't leave ours, Chaeryeong's."
At that, Jung Si-a said, "My daughter is now majoring in art at a good university in the U.S.," and Oh Hyunkyung complained, "(My daughter) doesn't draw. Our Chaeryeong gave up drawing because of Seo-woo. She said, 'Mom, Seo-woo is that good,' I think Chaeryeong must have asked Seo-woo once, 'Do you do this without an underdrawing, just as it comes to mind?' She said yes. She said, 'I think drawing is something kids like Seo-woo do.' Then she stopped drawing and kept doing strange things. She's learning knitting."
Jung Si-a brought up Oh Hyunkyung's daughter Chaeryeong's study abroad story, saying, "I learned from Chaeryeong that she went to the airport and left without looking back—her mother."
Then Oh Hyunkyung said, "It made me cry," explaining the reason. Jung Si-a was surprised and said, "I thought I was a very cool mom," and Oh Hyunkyung confessed, "Until I sent her like that, from kindergarten to fifth grade I every year sent her to camps, sent her to relatives' houses, did homestays, and after trying that for several years I decided to send her (to study abroad)."
She continued, "What kind of life of wealth could she expect when she couldn't communicate and suffered disadvantages because they didn't understand her language? How hard must that have been? She was separated from her parents. Besides, even if she had been good at English, it would be different. The second thing is sometimes when I'm angry I say, 'Do you know how expensive this is?' But one day I realized you can't convert the growing process into money while you haven't seen it happen. I was so ashamed. A child grows up without parents. So I cried a lot. I was the one who decided and sent her. I was so ashamed. How do you calculate raising a child in terms of money? I cried my heart out," she said, expressing remorse toward her daughter.
But when Jung Si-a asked, "Then what would you do if you could go back to that time?" Oh Hyunkyung answered bluntly, "I would send her (to study abroad)." Even so, she said, "If the situation allows, I want to go with her." Afterwards Jung Si-a said, "I also want to be healthy and live long like you," and Oh Hyunkyung encouraged her, saying, "You're doing very well," creating a warm moment.
Meanwhile, Oh Hyunkyung married in 2002 and gave birth to her daughter Chaeryeong, but the couple divorced by agreement in 2006.<
