Actor Koo Hye-sun's hair roller, which she developed, sold out after she explained amid a price controversy.
Koo Hye-sun posted on her social media on the 6th, Kakao Gift KOOROLL (Kooroll) is sold out. I will greet you with a new product. Thank you, announcing the sold-out news by leaving the message.
Earlier, Koo Hye-sun released the official sales page for the hair roller product she participated in developing. The product is being sold at 13,000 won for one and 25,000 won for a set of two.
However, since ordinary hair rollers sold on the market mostly cost a few hundred won to around 1,000 won, some netizens criticized the price as being excessively high. In particular, there were reactions that it felt burdensome because the price was similar to that of functional rechargeable hair rollers.
On the other hand, online debate continued as opinions appeared saying the price was acceptable, noting that Koo Hye-sun directly participated in the entire product development process and that the product was recognized for its technical merit.
The hair roller is known to have been produced with Koo Hye-sun participating in all processes such as product planning, design, naming, and branding.
As the price controversy grew, Koo Hye-sun explained directly. She said it is a product that reduces more than 80% of the plastic compared with conventional round hair rollers, and emphasized that unlike round hair rollers that tangle and become contaminated with hair, it can be opened to easily remove hair and has good durability so it can be used permanently.
She also explained that because the initial manufacturing quantity was not large, the cost is high and the current price is on the high side, but she plans to lower the consumer burden through future discount events. She added, If you consider the environment, please use it, encouraging purchase of the product.
Meanwhile, Koo Hye-sun is known to have been accepted into the master of engineering program at KAIST Graduate School of Science Journalism in 2024 and participated in the development of the product with researchers. She conceived the new form of the product from the idea of hair rollers students wear on their heads.
