Singer Park Jae-beom revealed his feelings about leaving the group 2PM after 16 years, and past incidents are being reexamined. His statements after leaving and suspicions about diss tracks have exhumed the past.
On the 5th, the YouTube channel "Eyes Magazine" posted a video titled "The song that changed Park Jae-beom's life."
In this interview, Park Jae-beom spoke about the time he left 2PM. When asked, "While doing idol activities and then going back to the U.S., weren't you anxious?", he honestly replied, "I wasn't really anxious. I just felt sorry and apologetic."
Recalling the time of his departure, Park Jae-beom said, "Anyway, I caused offense and harm to many people. But I really wasn't anxious," and added, "I go with the flow. I accept it and do my best in the given situation, so I wasn't anxious."
He debuted with 2PM on Sept. 2008 and gained attention with his popularity. However, after debut, controversy arose over whether a past post he had written disparaged Korea, and he ultimately chose to leave 2PM and return to the U.S.
The problem was that repercussions continued as various suspicions surfaced afterward. At the time, Park Jin-Young, head of JYP Entertainment, appeared on KBS 2TV's "Seungseungjanggu" and commented on Park Jae-beom's departure, "People make mistakes when they are young. I did too. But these days debuting at a young age seems to be a problem. When someone gains wealth, popularity and fame at a young age and (an issue) emerges, it becomes unforgivable," adding, "If it were trivial I could cover it up, but it was so big that I conflicted between protecting the kid and deceiving the public."
Park Jin-Young's remarks gave a strange nuance to Park Jae-beom's departure, prompting various speculations and interpretations. At the time, a representative of Cyworlds HQ, Park Jae-beom's agency then, said, "Park Jin-Young conveyed a nuance that 'if the truth comes out this friend will get hurt,' which instead generated all kinds of unconfirmed speculation. This is something the agency for Park Jae-beom can no longer overlook," and added, "I just wonder what Park Jin-Young's intention was in sparking another controversy. He made an irresponsible remark under the name of protection and Park Jae-beom was hurt once again," voicing complaints.
In particular, on the album "WORLDWIDE" that Park Jae-beom released in Nov. 2015, a song titled "retard" was suspected of dissing Park Jin-Young. The song includes lyrics such as "My old teacher might become our same same so he's being salty now," "You, a broadcaster who sells to fans, block me but I keep going straight, woah," "I almost got booked for XX music festival but yeah the old man kept acting his age and was lame, lame," and "What I do is music, what you do is politics." This led to speculation that Park Jae-beom's criticism was aimed at Park Jin-Young.
At the time, Park Jae-beom's agency AOMG said, "Since Park Jae-beom himself wrote the song, there is nothing for the company to comment on. It is difficult to verify the authenticity of the content," and JYP Entertainment also refrained from commenting, saying, "No opinion."
Ten years later, many of the speculations became things of the past. However, as Park Jae-beom mentioned his departure from 2PM, interest in the past has again been focused on him.
