A broadcaster and former announcer, Choi Dong-seok, continues a mudslinging fight against his ex-wife, Park Ji-yoon. The dismissed "male friend" claim has been brought up again as the litigation continues.
On the 7th, according to sources in the entertainment industry, the adultery lawsuit that arose amid Choi Dong-seok and Park Ji-yoon's divorce proceedings will proceed in the second instance as a lawsuit involving only Choi Dong-seok and Park Ji-yoon's "male friend" A, without Park Ji-yoon.
Earlier, the Jeju District Court Family Litigation Division 2 single judge dismissed Choi Dong-seok's claim in the adultery compensation lawsuit he filed against Park Ji-yoon and A. However, Choi Dong-seok's side appealed the decision, and the second instance continues.
Conversely, the lawsuit filed by Park Ji-yoon against Choi Dong-seok also saw Park Ji-yoon's claim dismissed. However, Park Ji-yoon's side accepted the judgment without appealing. Meanwhile, in the second instance filed by Choi Dong-seok's side, Park Ji-yoon was excluded as a defendant and only the lawsuit between Choi Dong-seok and A proceeded.
As a result, the divorce litigation between Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok has entered its third year. Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok met as classmates who joined KBS as 30th batch contract announcers in 2004, and after more than four years of dating, they married in 2009. The two had a daughter and a son and built a family, but after 14 years of marriage they sought divorce mediation in October 2023, marking the breakup.
The problem is that the drawn-out litigation and public opinion battles were displayed in full during the divorce process. In particular, Choi Dong-seok continued his "targeting" comments on his personal social media by mentioning Park Ji-yoon's spending habits and meetings with their children. Those posts were deleted later as one-offs, but they left the impression that both sides continued public campaigns to gain advantage in custody and visitation rights, increasing public fatigue.
This escalated further into counter adultery lawsuits. In July 2024, Park Ji-yoon filed a complaint against Choi Dong-seok's acquaintance B, and later in September of the same year Choi Dong-seok filed a counterlawsuit against Park Ji-yoon and A, claiming that the marriage collapsed due to Park Ji-yoon's infidelity.
After the counterlawsuit surfaced, Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok hurriedly denied the related allegations. Both lawsuits were dismissed in the first instance, but while Park Ji-yoon abandoned her appeal, Choi Dong-seok appealed and appears to be continuing the litigation.
The children are currently being raised by Park Ji-yoon, and Choi Dong-seok is reported to exercise visitation rights on a regular basis.
