Broadcaster Hyunyoung said her daughter was banned from cheering at a swim meet.
On the 6th, a video titled "national noona appears Hyunyoung" was posted on the YouTube channel Lim Ha Ryong Show.
That day they talked about Hyunyoung's distinctive voice. Hyunyoung said, "I have a voice that sticks in your ear." Regarding rumors that it was a made-up voice, she said, "But this is my voice even if I inhale helium gas. Helium gas can't beat me," drawing laughter.
Hyunyoung said, "My older sister, me, and my mother's voices are all the same. Back when we used the home phone without a cell phone, when someone called looking for my older sister and said, 'Oh it's me,' the other person would think it was my older sister and men would speak to me. Even when my older sister said it was me, the other person believed it."
She continued, "So I researched voices. After researching, I learned that voice isn't innate. They said it's a habit. They said children follow the vocal habits their mother uses. If my mother had a very low tone, I would have had a low tone too."
Lim Ha Ryong asked, "How about your daughter? Does she have the same voice?" In response, Hyunyoung said, "My daughter has a very boyish voice," and said, "She doesn't aim for my voice. People say my mother's voice is unusual. My daughter is very much like a boy. She is now 172cm tall and to me she looks feminine but very much like a senior on a sports team. She actually does sports too."
In particular, Hyunyoung said, "At competitions when everyone stands on the diving block, they introduce who will be in which lane in the finals. Then when most kids' names are called, team members or parents shout, 'Go, [name]!' But my daughter tells me never to do that."
She added with a laugh, "People who didn't know she was my daughter suddenly recognize her when I shout, 'Go, [name]'. So my daughter asked me to hold back and not do it before she swims. She said she doesn't need me to do it because she has to go at her own pace and shouldn't get attention, so I don't have to cheer."
