An incident occurred in which the personal information of 647 high-value donors who donated 20 million won or more, including entertainers, was leaked from Community Chest of Korea (Love Fruit).
On the 6th, Love Fruit announced an apology titled "We notify you of the leakage of personal information and deeply apologize" on its official website, informing the public of the personal information leak.
According to this, Love Fruit confirmed that some donors' personal information was exposed in an attached file of the 2024 public corporation settlement of account disclosure material posted on the website around 7 p.m. on the 4th. In the process of registering the attachments needed for disclosure of public corporation settlement of account and other documents on the website on April 25 last year in accordance with relevant laws, a file that had not been anonymized was uploaded.
In particular, it was confirmed that a total of 647 donors had their personal information exposed in the uploaded file. The leaked personal information items were names, resident registration numbers and donation amounts, and it is known that many famous entertainers were among them, adding to the shock.
Regarding this, Love Fruit said, "We sincerely and deeply apologize once again for causing concern to our donors," and said, "The foundation deleted the post as soon as it became aware of the leak and conducted a full investigation of whether personal information had been leaked from materials posted on the website, including the attached file, and confirmed there were no additional leaks. We promptly implemented necessary measures such as rechecking the management procedures for posted materials and strengthening security measures, and immediately reported this incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission. We are contacting donors individually thereafter."
It added, "Under the president's supervision, we formed a leak response team composed of heads of the information protection department and related departments to closely identify the cause of the incident and continuously respond to potential additional situations," and said, "The foundation recognizes seriously that donors' personal information was exposed externally, deeply reaffirms the importance of personal information protection, and will thoroughly implement strengthened internal verification procedures, regular personal information handling inspections and other administrative safety measures, technical safety measures such as checking whether registered files expose personal information, and strict information security training for all employees to prevent the same problem from recurring."
In addition, Love Fruit emphasized, "If you receive suspicious phone calls or emails suggesting financial damage or identity theft due to this leak, or if you have any other questions, please contact the number below. We will respond sincerely to minimize donors' concerns and provide necessary support."
It added, "If secondary financial damage occurs due to the leaked information, we will compensate through proper legal procedures in accordance with relevant laws, and we recommend subscribing to identity theft prevention services to prevent additional damage such as websites registering with the leaked donors' names and resident registration numbers. If you receive suspicious phone calls or emails suggesting identity theft or have any other questions, please contact us. We will respond sincerely to minimize donors' concerns and provide necessary support."
