Singer Park Ki-young overcame a crisis of poor condition and a clash of opinions to deliver an emotional performance.
On the 5th, KBS2 music variety show Bada Geonneo Duet featured a tense situation during preparations for a duet stage with an overseas artist.
Ahead of the busking performance that day, Park Ki-young said, "I think we should tidy up the lyrics a bit." However, Dutch singer Wouter Hamel said, "Our band probably wouldn't like that approach," left the spot, and filming was temporarily halted. The atmosphere between the two, who showed differences in rehearsal methods, quickly grew tense, and the production team also stopped recording while watching the situation.
On top of that, Park Ki-young's health issues surfaced. He said, "My stomach hurts," complained of poor condition and was even seen looking for painkillers. During consultations with the production team, it became known that his throat was swollen and his voice was almost gone, raising the possibility of canceling the performance. The production team expressed worry, saying, "What should we do about tomorrow's performance? Shouldn't we cancel it?"
But Park Ki-young did not give up. Even after returning to the lodging, he practiced alone until late at night to prepare for the stage. Later, Wouter Hamel was informed of his situation and the two regained their composure. Because there had been misunderstandings, they embraced each other in reconciliation and resumed practice.
On the day of the performance, 311 audience members gathered—more than expected—and the atmosphere heated up. Although his condition had not fully recovered, Park Ki-young went on stage and sang steadily, and he and Wouter Hamel showed fantastic chemistry, successfully finishing the duet performance. After the performance, Wouter Hamel said, "It was truly an amazing experience. I am so happy to make music." Park Ki-young also expressed satisfaction with the new musical challenge.
The two completed a stage that overcame poor condition and cultural differences. The voice of diva Park Ki-young, resonating around the world, moved viewers deeply.
