Actor Lee Seo-jin expressed his ambition as he takes on his first play 27 years after his debut.
Lee Seo-jin recently announced that he will appear in the play "Uncle Vanya," produced by LG Arts Center and directed by Son Sang-gyu, and the first script reading, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, was revealed.
"Uncle Vanya" is a representative work by Russia's great writer Anton Chekhov and remains one of the classic masterpieces most frequently performed on stages around the world. It depicts the lives of ordinary characters whose entire lives are shaken when they suddenly veer off their daily routines, including Vanya and Sonya, who devoted their lives to their home and family and the order within it.
In the play, Lee Seo-jin portrays the protagonist Vanya, who, while voicing dissatisfaction and skepticism about life, retains affection for his family and a pure devotion to his dreams. Lee Seo-jin, who will perform all scheduled shows (22 performances) as the sole cast, is expected to convincingly portray Vanya's complex and multifaceted emotional arc and offer audiences a deep resonance and lingering impression.
Lee Seo-jin said, "It's true I had long hesitations before taking on the theater stage, but I decided to appear because it seemed like a meaningful new challenge. I want to practice hard and show audiences my own Vanya. I'm focusing only on rehearsal," expressing his ambition toward "Uncle Vanya."
Lee Seo-jin's stage debut "Uncle Vanya" will run from May 7 to May 31 at LG Arts Center Seoul, LG SIGNATURE Hall.
