One of MBC's most anticipated projects of 2026, "Perfect Crown," has set its premiere date.
According to reporting by OSEN on the 6th, MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown will premiere on April 10. It will follow the currently airing In Your Radiant Season and run for a total of 12 episodes.
Originally, the Perfect Crown team was debating an April premiere date. Because the Korea-Japan game of the "2026 World Baseball Classic" held on March 7 led to the preemption of the Friday-Saturday drama In Your Radiant Season, its finale was delayed by a week, and Perfect Crown therefore will premiere in the second week of April.
Set to premiere in April, Perfect Crown is a romance that breaks social barriers set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy Korea, telling the story of a woman who has everything as a chaebol but feels frustrated by her commoner status, and a man who is the king's son but lives a fate in which he can have nothing.
Especially since the casting of IU and Byeon Woo-seok created major buzz from the casting stage, Perfect Crown has drawn attention from not only domestic but also global fans. IU plays chaebol Seong Hee-ju, who has everything except her status, and Byeon Woo-seok plays Prince Ian who could not become king.
IU's series When Life Gives You Tangerines was arguably last year's most popular work on Netflix, and Byeon Woo-seok chose this project right after the tvN phenomenon Lovely Runner, so both carry expectations and pressure. Attention is focused on what kind of synergy the two actors will create.
Meanwhile, Perfect Crown is a work by writer Yoo Ji-won that won the MBC drama script contest with overwhelming support from judges; the contest produced notable works such as Black Sun and Doubt. Director Park Jun-hwa, who directed the sitcom series Maengtae Young-ae, Let's Eat 1 and 2, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, and Happiness, will direct, and MBC and Kakao Entertainment will co-produce it.
