Director Jang Hang-jun shared feedback he heard after the release of the film "The King's Warden".
On the afternoon of the 4th, Jang Hang-jun appeared on the live-recorded broadcast of Bae Seong-jae's Ten Wednesday Live on the YouTube channel SBS Radio Erao. He kept his promise to return to fulfill his pledge after the film surpassed 5 million viewers.
That live broadcast started with 7,000 viewers and proceeded as more than 10,000 netizens watched. Bae Seong-jae and the production team said, "Normally about 500 people join a live, and if a girl group appears, a few more come in. Recently player Kim Gil-gi held the record, but this broke the record," expressing surprise.
In response, Jang Hang-jun cautiously mentioned, "A characteristic of Korea's public is that they hold a stone in one hand and a flower in the other. They are buried in flowers and die. Then when someone slips up, it's the stone." Jang Hang-jun added, "My father treats me cautiously too. He is 96 years old and treats me cautiously," drawing attention.
Jang Hang-jun mentioned reactions around him, noting that the film "The King's Warden," which opened last month, is so popular that it is approaching a cumulative audience of 10 million.
First, responding to remarks that the film is doing well despite being "history spoilers," Jang Hang-jun revealed, "After Son Suk-ku watched it, he said that until the body floated down the river at the end he thought it was a fake and that someone was alive somewhere."
Jang Hang-jun also revealed a text message he received from director Park Chan-wook. He said, "A few days ago director Park Chan-wook sent me a message. He said, 'Congratulations. Thank you for accomplishing such a great feat and for doing something worthy of applause,'" and added, "I replied, 'In all my life I never thought the day would come when I'd be praised by the director,'" he confessed.
The reactions around him were that warm. Bae Seong-jae also said he watched the film with his wife Kim Da-young, adding, "My wife ended up crying while watching. The theater audience reaction was all good."
