Netflix mega-hit Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell announced an unprecedented plan that will quench fans' thirst. The news is that Kate Sharma (played by Simone Ashley), the heroine of season 2, will play a key role in the upcoming Eloise Bridgerton season.
In a recent exclusive interview with People, Jess Brownell mentioned the stories of Eloise (played by Claudia Jessie) and Francesca (played by Hannah Dodd), the leads of seasons 5 and 6 whose order has not yet been finalized. She especially hinted that when Eloise's season arrives, she plans to significantly increase the prominence of Kate, played by Simone Ashley.
Brownell said, "I personally really cherish the relationship between Kate and Eloise. I want to continue following the two women's relationship in the future," and added, "When it becomes Eloise's season, I hope Kate will play a major role by her side." This signals that Kate's appearance will go beyond a simple cameo and that she will act as a key mentor helping the protagonist grow, raising fans' expectations.
In fact, this announcement is like rain after a drought for fans who were angered by the absence of the 'Kith+Anthony' couple in Bridgerton season 4 part 1. At the time, fans expressed strong complaints about the absence of Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey.
Brownell explained, "In season 4 part 1 it was important to show Benedict, the second son, filling the void left by his self-made older brother and experiencing the responsibilities and anguish of being the 'second son.' Only by Anthony being away at Induna or Aubrey Hall could Benedict have the chance to stand on his own or fail." But she reassured fans, saying, "Because Anthony and Benedict's relationship is central to the whole drama, Anthony ultimately had to return."
Brownell's ambition does not end there. She is envisioning a scene that brings together every lead from past seasons in one place, including Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Simon) and Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne), who were the leads in season 1 and were praised as attractive faces.
She added that it would be narratively very meaningful for the youngest line, Hyacinth and Gregory, when their story unfolds, for the Daphne and Anthony couple—who acted like parents—to return.
