Actor Park Jihoon, who played Danjong in the film The King's Warden, will not attend the Danjong Culture Festival to be held in April.
On the 4th, the Danjong Culture Festival organizers announced on their official social media, "We inform you that actor Park Jihoon will not attend the Danjong Culture Festival. Please be advised."
Earlier, Park Jihoon drew attention by sending a video message celebrating the holding of the Danjong Culture Festival through the Yeongwol Festival's official social media. In the video he greeted, "Actor Park Jihoon, who played Danjong in the film The King's Warden," and then said, "While playing Danjong in this work, I sincerely wanted to consider and convey the loneliness and pain and the inner stories he might have felt as a person before he was a king."
He added, "It was a precious time for me to look at and feel history a little more closely," and said, "While filming in Yeongwol, where the movie was shot, I was able to film happily thanks to the clear nature and warm people."
He also personally announced the event, saying, "The 59th Danjong Culture Festival will be held in Yeongwol, that precious place, for three days from April 24 to 26."
Although Park Jihoon promoted the festival himself with a video message, which drew attention to whether he would attend the event, the Danjong Culture Festival organizers eventually clarified the confusion by announcing his absence through an official notice.
Meanwhile, The King's Warden is a work depicting the story of Danjong, the sixth king of Joseon, and was released on the 4th of last month. The film has surpassed 9.59 million cumulative viewers and is approaching 10 million viewers.
Director Jang Hang-jun is reported to be scheduled to visit the Danjong Culture Festival site next month to give a special lecture and attend the opening ceremony.
