"EXchange / Transit Love 2" alum Seong Hae-eun revealed her own dieting method.
On the 4th, a video titled 70kg→50kg: Seong Hae-eun's dieting secret! was uploaded to the HAEPPY channel.
That day Seong Hae-eun said, One of the things you all keep telling me is about my diet. Many people ask me to share my body-management secrets. Until now, rather than saying how I dieted, I showed 'this is how I exercise and live.' The reason is there isn't any fancy, extraordinary method, and what I tell you might not be proper, so I was worried you might follow it rashly. Today I'll try to show you how I do it, she began.
She said, It's not that I've always been this slim. I really had chubby times. And it wasn't just when I was very young. As a flight attendant I was over 70kg at 170cm. When I say that people don't believe me. So when I show proof photos of how I used to look everyone is surprised. You might not believe me if I say I was chubby, but I'll show you proof photos, she said, revealing photos from her heaviest flight attendant days, surprising viewers.
Seong Hae-eun said, That was understandable, right? I'll tell you my dieting history. I think I first properly dieted when preparing to become a flight attendant. Before I became a flight attendant I started modeling part-time. Because I had to do fitting model work I really dieted a lot back then. For the first time I severely restricted eating and didn't eat, so at 170cm I was 50kg. At that time there was talk that the 'height minus weight' should be 120. So I severely restricted food to make my weight 50kg and went to interviews, she said, adding, It looked pretty but I was dieting by starving, so I had hives and dizziness as side effects.
She continued, It's not just dieting; I also prepared hard for other interviews, passed, began flying, and about a year after joining my weight increased rapidly. The in-flight meals were so tasty to me. Other flight attendants said the meals weren't good and didn't eat much, but I liked them so much I ate several trays, ate local food a lot, ate breakfast at hotels, and ate instant noodles I brought into my room, so I gained weight frighteningly. Did I not exercise then? That's not true either. As I gained weight my strength improved so I lifted heavier weights and exercised really hard. I was a weight-focused person then. When I did deadlifts and squats the trainer would clap and leave. Because I lifted well, exercise became more fun. I got really into the gym, pulled my carry-on to the gym, attended the gym after flights and after that went home, I was a truly strong pig of a flight attendant, she recalled.
She said, But the problem was the uniform. Flight attendant uniforms are tight. I kept increasing the uniform size that fit tightly. Then I was terrified once because there was only one size left that could be increased. That alarmed me and I started dieting from then. The lesson I learned is dieting is definitely more about diet than exercise. Around the time of COVID I seriously decided to resign and prepared; I wanted to return to the modeling I did before becoming a flight attendant, so I prepared properly. But I thought my face alone wasn't a big advantage for modeling. So I decided to appeal my tall height and physicality, and then I really committed to dieting and weight training, she said, revealing what prompted her to start serious dieting.
Along with this, Seong Hae-eun also revealed photos from the time she proudly showed firm abs after succeeding in dieting. She said, After that I even thought about entering fitness competitions beyond body profiles. After that I went on EXchange / Transit Love and since then I've been inseparable from body management and dieting. So I really have a lot to say about dieting and body care. I've tried every diet up to now. From severe restriction to intermittent fasting, protein-only, low-carb diets, I tried them all, but intermittent fasting became intermittent bingeing and simply starving makes you lose weight but ultimately you gain more. The worst thing is yo-yo dieting inevitably happens, it ruins your health, and the scariest thing is your body changes to a type that gains weight more easily. Never do that. Having tried so many, I now know what diet suits me, she noted, pointing out dieting methods that did not work for her.
She added, No matter how hard you exercise, if your diet doesn't support it you'll just end up like this. But controlling what you eat is difficult, right? I really understand that feeling. I'll tell you how to balance it. I eat in a set order. I eat carbohydrates last and consume dietary fiber, vegetables, protein, then carbohydrates. Eating this way slows carbohydrate absorption and blood sugar rises more slowly. Also balance carbs, protein and fat. Some people think carbohydrates are absolutely bad and don't eat them at all, but you must not do that; carbohydrates are an essential energy source for us. Third, consume complex carbohydrates. When I eat at home and not eating out or ordering, I always eat brown rice, multigrain rice, or mixed rice with scallions. Or sweet potatoes, she shared tips.
She also said, Fourth, in the morning on an empty stomach when digestion and absorption are fast, eat as clean as possible. At home, eat as part of a diet plan as much as possible. Be careful of high-fructose corn syrup. And what I always keep is not eating late-night snacks. It's somewhat similar to intermittent fasting. I seem to eat very well when you see me, but when at home I always eat diet meals. So at our house the diet meals are very well stocked, she said.
In particular, Seong Hae-eun urged, I really hope you exercise. I know many people don't like to exercise. Still, I hope you do. She said the reason to exercise is not only for dieting but it improves stamina. When stamina improves, quality of life changes. Taking the subway, climbing, walking—these things aren't hard anymore. They say kindness comes from stamina, too. I really agree with that. The most important thing is to know what kind of exercise suits your disposition, she explained.
She continued, I've tried so many exercises: gym workouts, yoga, Pilates, boxing, ballet, running, hiking, golf, spinning—I really tried almost everything. As a result, the exercise that really suits me is powerful, explosive workouts like CrossFit. I don't like static exercises so I don't do them or go. Conversely, some people prefer static exercise. Try many things and find the exercise you like and do it properly. These days I'm into CrossFit and hiking and living happily and healthily, she said.
Finally she said, Above all, the most important thing is not to give up with an 'oh well.' We are human so there will certainly be days we fail. It's okay to fail for three days. I have a big appetite so I fail sometimes, but I try again and again. Don't give up because you ate late-night snacks or binge ate the day before; find your routine again the next day and start again. Our bodies are kinder than you think. They don't turn everything into fat immediately. If you feel like you gained weight the next day that's bloating. But you must manage bloating well. If you keep just this you can diet. I'm not someone who's always thin and I always fight with dieting. This is really my real method, she said.
