TV CHOSUN 'Dad and I season 3' showed Jun Su-kyung spending a healthy day enjoying enzyme steam treatment and a Mediterranean low-sodium diet with her 97-year-old "super youthful" father. Also, Hyun Joo-yeop granted his son Jun-hee's birthday wish, but the persistent distance between them remained, evoking regret.
On the April 4 broadcast of TV CHOSUN 'Dad and I season 3', 97-year-old "super youthful" Jun Su-kyung's father became the neighborhood superstar. From early morning, Jun Su-kyung's father was busy with calls from acquaintances. A friend of Jun Su-kyung's father praised him, saying, "The secret to his health is having a good daughter," and Jun Su-kyung's father proudly said, "I suddenly feel like I've gone to heaven." Watching her father's happy daily life, Jun Su-kyung smiled to herself, saying, "I'm seeing a lot of sides of my father I didn't know."
That day Jun Su-kyung went out with her father. Jun Su-kyung said, "Last year my father had some back pain. They said it was spinal stenosis," and, wishing to help her father's joints, they headed to an "enzyme steam room." In the warm steam, Jun Su-kyung's father even slept soundly and enjoyed it. The father and daughter finished with a foot bath and talked at length about health. Having had thyroid cancer surgery, Jun Su-kyung recalled, "The tumor was attached close to my vocal cords, so when removing the tumor, the nerve to the vocal cords could possibly be cut. I didn't show it outwardly, but inside I was crushed, thinking, 'Can I return to the stage?''' Jun Su-kyung's father confessed, "I only worried inside," swallowing his feelings so his daughter wouldn't be distressed. When Jun Su-kyung said, "Now let's take good care of our health and live well," her father wittily replied, "But if I live too long I might not be welcomed," provoking laughter with a spicy joke.
Jun Su-kyung gave her father a hat gifted by her American husband Eric. During the difficult time of battling thyroid cancer, she met her husband through a friend's introduction. Eric worked as general manager of a famous hotel for 16 years, and is currently working as a general manager in Taiwan, so he and Jun Su-kyung live as a "long-distance couple."
Jun Su-kyung's father said, "My son-in-law is sociable and very frank, and even with me present he calls her 'Su-kyung' and shows affection... I thought, 'He loves my daughter like this, that's enough,'" showing he was smitten with his affectionate son-in-law. Jun Su-kyung's father added, "When we went to the hotel, the staff recognized him saying 'sir, sir', treated us to a meat banquet, and even gave us a suite's private room," boasting that thanks to his son-in-law the hotel treated him well. Missing his son-in-law whom he hadn't seen for four years due to overseas work, the father was provided a video call by Jun Su-kyung. Before the call, Jun Su-kyung gave him crash English lessons so he could say a few words. Her father memorized the most important phrases — "thank you," "I miss you," "see you soon" — and practiced repeatedly, and Jun Su-kyung called her husband. As soon as the call connected, Jun Su-kyung's father blurted out, "Thank you berumachi(?)" startling his daughter and son-in-law. The son-in-law asked in Korean, "Do you like the hat?" but the eager father said, "See you soon. OK. Daijobu(?)" even throwing in Japanese, which sent the studio into laughter. Hyun Joo-yeop said, "He speaks three languages," impressed.
After the call, Jun Su-kyung prepared a "Mediterranean olive oil lemon dressing salad" and "basil pesto chicken breast pasta" for her father, who likes salty flavors, to protect his health. Hearing the menu, Jun Hyun-moo said, "There's not a single item I like," dampening expectations for the healthy meal, and Jun Su-kyung's father frowned at the low-sodium diet. Seeing her father's sulky mood, Jun Su-kyung said, "What I'm grateful for is... I could feel he was trying to eat it deliciously because his daughter made it for him," expressing thanks. However, after Jun Su-kyung returned home, her father made a fish soup with red pepper flakes and salt and ended the day with a salty twist.
Meanwhile, Hyun Joo-yeop found himself in an emergency after forgetting his son Hyun Jun-hee's birthday. Early in the morning Hyun Joo-yeop's mother called to celebrate her grandson Jun-hee's birthday. Realizing belatedly that it was Jun-hee's birthday, Hyun Joo-yeop panicked, saying, "I messed up again... this is bad." Jun-hee expressed disappointment, saying, "Last year there were many things so I let it go, but honestly I'm a bit hurt you forgot this year too." Hyun Joo-yeop set up his son's birthday table with the seaweed soup and fried rice his wife had prepared for Jun-hee's birthday. He also tried to win Jun-hee over by generously giving 100,000 won as a birthday gift.
Also, for his son who had never been to a PC bang, Hyun Joo-yeop decided they should go together, saying, "Won't I be a good dad instead of a strict one?" When Hyun Joo-yeop was puzzled by Jun-hee's excited reaction, Jun-hee replied, "Isn't it exciting to do something your dad has never done either? Since it's my birthday I'll go because of that," unable to hide his excitement. The father and son looked bewildered enough to show it was their first time at a PC bang. After struggling through the entry process, Jun-hee started the game first and enjoyed being at the PC bang. Watching from behind, Hyun Joo-yeop was amazed by the restaurant-level variety of food menus. Wanting to do something with Jun-hee, Hyun Joo-yeop ordered food from 'Dubai jjondeuk cookie' to pizza and did a mukbang while also making sure his son ate first, creating a heartwarming scene. However, contrary to his expectations, seeing his son absorbed only in games made Hyun Joo-yeop feel hurt.
On the way home, a chilly atmosphere hung between Hyun Joo-yeop and his son. Jun-hee immediately spent the 100,000 won birthday gift from his father on game item purchases, and Hyun Joo-yeop was shocked, saying, "You spent 100,000 won on games?" With his father's continued scolding, Jun-hee's expression hardened, and Hyun Joo-yeop vented, "Even if I try to understand, I just can't understand that." Watching this, Jun Su-kyung sided with Jun-hee, saying, "Think of it as buying an expensive coat(?), then it's okay." Even after arriving home, Hyun Joo-yeop complained, "We tried to spend time together and go to a PC bang, but you played alone... Isn't 100,000 won on games excessive?" Jun-hee rebutted, "It was my first time there, I could enjoy it." Jun-hee continued, "If I received money regularly I'd save bit by bit, but when money comes in once in a while I think I should spend it right away. So you should give allowance," pointing out the lack of regular pocket money. Hyun Joo-yeop buys the food or clothes Jun-hee wants, but he withheld allowance fearing it would be spent on games. 'Elementary mom' Han Hye-jin said, "Giving allowance helps with developing financial sense. They learn how to spend," recommending an allowance system. Jun Su-kyung added, "You have to give allowance so they learn to spend it on a larger scale," and Jun Hyun-moo added, "If he really wants something he'll save for it." The Hyun Joo-yeop family also showed differences in opinion over taking a leave of absence from school. The conversation between Hyun Joo-yeop and his son ended coldly, making them feel the distance between them once again.
