Director Jang Hang-jun gave an honest stance on the promise to change his name and undergo plastic surgery ahead of the film The King's Warden reaching 10 million viewers.
On the afternoon of Feb. 4, Jang Hang-jun appeared on the live broadcast of Bae Seong-jae's Ten Wednesday Live on the YouTube channel SBS Radio Erao and addressed the previously mentioned 10 million promise.
That day Jang Hang-jun opened up about the 10 million promise, which mentioned changing his name, plastic surgery and an onboard party, saying, "I am so grateful for the interest, but I wondered if that would become news," and added, "I naturally thought it wouldn't reach 10 million, and because the first-day score was low and the reservation rate was also low, it was a question of whether we would surpass the break-even point. So I tried to be funny. When the news called it a promise, it became very burdensome and the investment company even held a countermeasure meeting."
He continued, "Wasn't I lucky to say it like that — what if I had said, 'I'll give half of my entire fortune'?" and added, "That's why talks of exile and naturalization come up. I only hoped we would just slightly pass the break-even point."
Producer Jang Won-seok also added, "The production company hoped to surpass the break-even point. It's 2.6 million people. We wondered if it could really exceed 5 million if things went extremely well. Because we couldn't imagine it, we said those things. If anyone had any sense, who would say things like that?"
Regarding the plastic surgery promise, Jang Hang-jun candidly said, "If I were to have surgery, rather than plastic surgery I would like to redesign overall. I mean not just remodeling but tearing it down and starting over," which made people laugh.
About the yacht onboard party he also said, "Many people keep sending messages and texts asking to be taken with me. Yesterday and today I received hundreds of KakaoTalk messages and texts from acquaintances. They said they wanted to send their regards one last time before they change their names and phone numbers. These days I'm being collectively mocked," he said.
He then joked, "We say this among ourselves, but how could anyone keep all those promises? Is there such a person in the whole world? Jesus Christ, Buddha," which drew laughter. Jang Hang-jun said instead that he is preparing a coffee truck event in downtown Seoul, attracting attention.
