The internationally renowned designer the late André Kim's adopted son, CEO Kim Jung-do, recounted the difficult times after his father's death.
On the 3rd, CGN's channel uploaded a video titled "After my father 'André Kim' passed away, God the Father came to me | CEO Kim Jung-do (André Kim Atelier)."
That day on "THE NEW Haneulbit Hyanggi," André Kim Atelier CEO Kim Jung-do appeared as a guest and shared his story. He recalled the hardships he experienced after the late André Kim's death, saying, "There were continuous difficulties. While working, my father suddenly passed away and I was thrown into the role unexpectedly, so there really wasn't time to learn the job, but I learned while working, and that was very hard in many ways. Since I didn't have siblings, it was just my father and me alone, so there were many times I had to endure things by myself."
He continued, "Around 2024 the company's finances became a bit strained. At that time I was so distressed, thinking, why do I have to suffer like this? Father, why did you die and make me suffer like this? I harbored resentments that weren't quite resentments and began to have some dark thoughts. Just as I was about to do something bad, the Lord called me. Instinctively I thought it was a sign to start going to church, and the next day my wife, who already attended church, said she would go along, so I went," saying he overcame the difficult situation through faith.
CEO Kim Jung-do explained the situation at the time: "Circumstantially, the company was struggling, funds looked tight, and when I felt such agony, our building has a rooftop. That night I briefly thought, should I go up to the rooftop and do something bad?"
When asked about the bittersweet feelings of living as the son of a celebrity, he confessed, "Because he was such a big figure, there were many burdens and sometimes I resented, 'Why do I have to be like this?' But looking back now, I am grateful, and I miss him a lot."
He added, "He took care of everything from A to Z, and because my mother wasn't there, my father fulfilled both mother and father roles. When I was young he really looked after me a lot, took me to school and paid attention to every little thing, so when I was little it felt a bit burdensome, but thinking about it now I am very thankful. Would there really be someone who cared and looked after me like that? I don't think I could do that much for my own children," expressing his longing.
He also spoke about the void he felt after his father left, saying, "I suffered emotionally for years. I felt lonely and so empty because he wasn't there. I developed trauma." He added, "Aren't I carrying on the work my father did? There are costumes my father made in that space and various traces he left behind. Because I have to see those every day, I miss him each time. Though I can't see him, it feels like he is with me. He left things behind."
