Comedian Kang Jae-jun and his wife Lee Eun-hyung consulted with a child-rearing specialist.
On the 3rd, a video titled "Mom, are you curious about my personality?" was posted on Kang Jae-jun and Lee Eun-hyung's YouTube channel Giyu TV.
That day the couple invited a child psychology expert to their home and shared their concerns. Kang Jae-jun said, "There are many comments asking whether Hyun-jo's speech is a bit slow, so there are parts that worry me, and I'm also very curious about how his developmental process compares to his age in months."
As Lee Eun-hyung and Kang Jae-jun's parenting concerns continued, the expert said, "What you two are confused about now is that you're mixing up what is important now and what will be important later (at 18 months). Teaching them to overcome what they dislike is correct, but is this appropriate at 18 months? If you did 'meh~' and he cries, then you can say, 'Hyun-jo dislikes the meh~ sound,' and explain it that way."
The couple said Hyun-jo does not speak but understands everything, and the expert said, "Looking at the development chart, Hyun-jo has two concepts: language comprehension and expressive language, and comprehension is higher than expression. That means he knows a lot more context than he says, so you should keep talking in simple expressions so he can do it more often."
Afterward, the expert reviewed the developmental test results with the couple and advised, "In any case, it's important that he's within the blue range. What made me relieved and think it's somewhat okay is that today he interacted and his actual social skills are quite good. Now, the expressive language you two were worried about is lower compared with others, but it hasn't touched the borderline. There's no need to worry, and it would be good to wait a bit while interacting with him."
The expert continued, "You might think, 'Why doesn't he talk much?' but when he becomes absorbed, he forgets to talk. Also, Hyun-jo interacts with his parents like a machine that extracts what he wants. Earlier, after taking the supplement the child was holding it and when it didn't work he went to his mother. The speed at which the mother talks is much faster than how he expresses to his mother. Hyun-jo doesn't need to speak."
Hearing this, Lee Eun-hyung realized, "I did everything before he said anything," and the expert said, "Normally, good interaction promotes language development when the child says 'um' and you respond with 'Not coming out? Need help?' Right now the baby actually has no timing to say 'give it again' or 'help me.'"
