Actor Ha Ye-rin, who played Sophie, the female lead in Bridgerton 4, talked about her chemistry with Luke Thompson, who plays the male lead Benedict.
Netflix Korea held a press conference for the original series Bridgerton 4 on the afternoon of the 4th at Community Masil in Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul. Ha Ye-rin, who appears as Sophie, the female lead in Bridgerton 4, attended the event. Under the moderation of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim, she spoke with domestic reporters about the series and her recent activities.
Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn's bestselling novels and is set in Britain's Regency era, telling the love stories of the Bridgerton family's place in London's high society. In season 4, Benedict, the Bridgerton family's second son, shows a love that transcends social status with Sophie Beck, a maid born out of wedlock, and received a passionate response. Riding that wave, it reached No. 1 among Netflix global series and, despite being a foreign series, climbed to the top two in Korea, generating significant buzz.
Fans are particularly enthusiastic about the main couple of Bridgerton 4, Benedict and Sophie, calling them "Benopy" or pairing Luke and Ha Ye-rin together as "Lukerin." Among them, Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict, is nicknamed "Ben seobang" by Korean fans, and a surge of so-called obsessed fans cheering the unique chemistry of the two leads has emerged.
Responding to the heated reaction toward "Ben seobang," Ha Ye-rin laughed and said it would have been nice if they had come together, adding, "He's promoting other things in New York. They give time for separate promotions, and I might be able to do some promotions in Korea."
Above all, regarding reactions wishing that the two actors were dating, she laughed and said, "I think people see it as a hope for a love from fiction to become reality because of Benedict and Sophie. I am really thankful to Luke as a friend, and I think that comes across well. I appreciate people thinking that way."
So, who is the most attractive character in Bridgerton as Ha Ye-rin rather than as Sophie? Ha Ye-rin said, "This may be a boring answer. But Benedict," adding, "He seems to share an artistic side, and among the brothers he has a similar sense of humor." She said, "If not Benedict, then Anthony. He is kind of masculine and his sense of responsibility to protect his family is admirable."
