As of now, The King's Warden has drawn a cumulative audience of 9.4 million people (integrated box office network), making it likely to surpass ten million this week. After The Roundup: Punishment, which had been the last film to reach ten million, this precious ten-million film is the first to appear in the Korean film industry in two years.
The King's Warden opened on the 4th of last month, quickly surpassing the break-even point (2.6 million) and then scoring a huge hit at theaters during the Lunar New Year holiday. It reached 5 million in 18 days, 6 million in 20 days, 7 million in 24 days, 8 million in 26 days and 9 million in 27 days. In particular, after passing 7 million it showed the unusual phenomenon of accelerating box office speed, surprising people involved with the film.
The point at which it passed 9 million is faster than the pace of The King's Man, which was the first historical film to reach ten million (50 days), and Masquerade (31 days). In addition, on the recent March 1 holiday the daily audience reached 817,205, surpassing the previous highest single-day audience since release on Lunar New Year's Day (Feb. 17) of 661,442, setting a new personal best. Even though it is past its fourth week since release, the film's popularity shows that the viewing frenzy has not cooled.
