'1deungdeul' Ulala Session's Park Seung-il shared a heartbreaking story.
On the 1st broadcast, the third episode of MBC variety show '1deungdeul' featured a showdown among singers who placed from first to fifth last week.
That day, except for Kim Ki-tae who advanced without a match, Heo Gak, Lee Ye-jun, Son Seung-yeon, and Ulala Session, who placed second through fifth, were to compete in 1:1 face-offs. Heo Gak, who placed second, was given the opportunity to choose his first opponent, and he said, "They are winners of 'Superstar K' and 'The Voice Korea.' So, for the ratings of our '1deungdeul,' we decided to have a family fight," surprising viewers by choosing Ulala Session, the winner of 'Superstar K' season 3.
Heo Gak then chose Yada's 'Jinhon' and delivered a refreshing vocal performance. Amid subtle psychological tension, Ulala Session, who performed second, aroused curiosity by adopting a calm outfit and composed poses, unlike their earlier performance stage.
They immediately chose RA.D's 'Mother.' Park Seung-il said, "This is probably the stage I've been most nervous on so far. For this song, I have the desire to sing it perfectly."
Meanwhile, Heo Sung-tae cried loudly after watching Ulala Session's stage. He said, "I really cried my eyes out. Just seeing the parents themselves," and added, "And I didn't know this song. As I focused on listening to the lyrics, the moment the lyrics first hit me, it drove me crazy."
He added, "I'm trying hard to be filial now, but in fact, no matter how much you do, it's never enough. No matter what I give them, how much more can they enjoy it? Of course they are comfortable, but the more you do for them, the more insufficient it feels," and his eyes reddened once again.
Above all, Ulala Session surprised everyone by choosing a ballad. Kim Myung-hoon said, "Our leader hyung's mother is in a rather bad situation. The hyung I know is a rough son who couldn't be affectionate, but he wanted to shout 'mother' strongly on this stage to feel relieved, so he chose this song."
He added, "I opposed the song choice because it's too difficult. I thought we absolutely had to do it for our hyung."
Park Seung-il confessed, "My mother is not in good health and can only watch TV at home. My father is unable to call unless he makes the call himself, so he cannot call."
He continued, "My mother asks, 'Why isn't Seung-il active these days?' We are active. If my mother watches this stage and says, 'Our son is still active. I'm really relieved,' that would be enough for me," he said, evoking emotion.
Park Seung-il explained the reason for his song choice, saying, "But my mother can no longer speak well. The last time she simply said to me, 'I wish you would at least eat before you leave.' That one phrase, when I replayed that moment, made me think I had to sing this song for her, though imperfectly."
Park Seung-il said, "I was extremely nervous. It's regrettable, but I feel relieved. I hope it can be a comfort to many people."
After hearing Park Seung-il's story and shedding tears, Baek Z Young said, "I didn't cry when I was singing. Listening to Ulala Session's song made me realize this. Seung-il sang passionately and cried out 'mother,' and those feelings were absorbed into the music. I really support you," she said, offering encouragement.
