Actor Ji So-yeon quietly deleted a video of her Japan trip with Yang Mi-ra that she uploaded ahead of the March 1st holiday.
On the 28th, a video titled 나 오늘부터 자유부인이야!! (일본 여행 with. 양미라 언니) was uploaded to the channel '지소연 송재희의 Bella리에'. It was filmed when Ji So-yeon and Yang Mi-ra traveled to Takamatsu for two nights and three days on the 11th of last month, and appears to be part of promoting a package product sold on Yang Mi-ra's shopping mall.
In the video Ji So-yeon said she was excited, saying, "It's been so long since I traveled without my family that I can't imagine it, but my body needed rest and my mind needed rest, too." Afterwards, her travel companion Yang Mi-ra appeared, and the two experienced troubles from departure. Ji So-yeon had packed her daughter Hael's passport instead of her own.
In the end, she was able to depart after barely receiving her passport through a courier service, but a mishap occurred when a baggage sticker fell off during the Japanese immigration process. In addition, Yang Mi-ra underwent a thorough security search, saying, "Am I smuggling gold bullion? They searched even between my thighs."
However, after the video was released, criticism poured in from some netizens. The reason was that the timing of the two uploading the video was just a few hours before the March 1st holiday. March 1st commemorates March 1, 1919, the national holiday marking the day when the Korean people resisted Japanese colonial rule and announced the declaration of independence to proclaim Korea's desire for independence to the world. For that reason, the day is observed nationwide by displaying the Taegeukgi and otherwise honoring its significance.
Celebrities also showed their patriotism on social media for the March 1st holiday by sharing photos of the Taegeukgi or shouting "Long live Korean independence." Moreover, a mood has formed that it is natural to refrain from sharing Japan-related content on that day, and there have consistently been cases previously criticized for "insensitive" actions related to March 1st.
Amid this, criticism arose in some quarters over Ji So-yeon uploading a video of a Japan trip she took on Feb. 11 just before the March 1st holiday. On the other hand, some netizens said the criticism was excessive and heatedly debated the issue.
As the controversy spread, Ji So-yeon set the problematic video to private. However, neither Ji So-yeon nor Yang Mi-ra has issued a separate statement regarding the matter.<
