The King's Warden is continuing its box office run as it nears 9 million viewers.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) integrated ticketing system on March 2, on March 1, a public holiday for the March 1 movement, The King's Warden (director Jang Hang-jun, distributor SHOWBOX, produced by Onda Works·BA Entertainment) ranked first at the box office by drawing 817,212 viewers in one day. Its cumulative audience reached 8,484,433, bringing it close to the 9 million mark.
The King's Warden, which opened on Feb. 4, is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of a village head who chose exile for the sake of reviving his village and a young deposed king exiled from the throne. Its weighty narrative, concentrated performances by the cast and word-of-mouth combined to create a long-running box office momentum.
It especially benefited greatly from the March 1 holiday effect. Drawing more than 800,000 viewers in a day once again proved its box office momentum. Already listed as the highest-grossing film of 2026, attention is now focused on whether it will enter the "10 million club."
The King's Warden surpassed 8 million in less than a month after its release. With predictions that surpassing 9 million is only a matter of time, attention is focused on how far the final score will extend.<
