Actresses Ji So-yeon and Yang Mi-ra's Japan trip video was released, and controversy unexpectedly continued as the upload timing coincided with March 1st.
On Feb. 28, the YouTube channel 'Ji So-yeon Song Jae-hee's Bella-rie' uploaded a video titled 'I'm a free woman from today!! (Japan trip with sister Yang Mi-ra)'. The video showed the two traveling to Takamatsu, Japan.
There was an incident from the departure. Ji So-yeon mistakenly took her daughter's passport instead of her own. She said she "felt her heart drop" and was flustered. Fortunately, she received the passport by courier service and was able to depart safely.
An episode continued during the Japan entry process. Yang Mi-ra said she was searched rigorously, saying, "Was I smuggling gold bullion? They searched even between my thighs," and revealed she underwent a thorough security check. Afterwards, the two enjoyed eating udon and visiting a park, among other travel activities.
However, some internet users pointed out that the video's release coincided with March 1, the Sam-iljeol holiday. Reactions included, "Of all times, a Japan travel video now?" and "The timing is unfortunate." March 1 is a national holiday commemorating the day in 1919 when the declaration of independence was released, and because many celebrities posted photos of the Taegeukgi or memorial messages that day to reflect on its significance, it was analyzed that the timing was taken sensitively.
On the other hand, many argued the criticism was excessive. Voices cautioning against overinterpretation continued, saying, "It's excessive to make an issue of the trip itself" and "They only uploaded footage from a previous trip."
Meanwhile, Ji So-yeon married Song Jae-hee in 2017 and recently shared news that she gave birth to twins through in vitro fertilization.
