Actor the late Oh Hyunkyung marked the second anniversary of her passing.
Oh Hyunkyung died on Mar. 1, 2024. She was 88.
A year earlier, in Aug. 2023, Oh Hyunkyung suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and endured a period of illness. After about seven months of treatment, she ultimately did not recover and passed away.
Born in Seoul in 1936, he was an alumnus of Yonsei University's department of Korean language and literature and began acting while a member of the Yonsei Theater Arts Research Club during his studies. He gained acting experience on various theater stages such as The Marriage of Figaro, The Wedding at the House of Maeng Jin-sa, and The Tale of Heo Saeng, and in 1961 he formally debuted as a first-generation KBS contract actor.
In particular, in the 1960s he expanded his filmography by appearing in films such as Today the King, The Boarder, Shall I Give Everything?, Korea reaching out to the world, and The Three Servant Sisters. Later, from 1987 to 1993, he won great affection for his passionate portrayal of Lee Jang-su in the TV series TV grandson strategy, which ran for about six years. In 2005, at age 70, he appeared in MBC historical drama Shindon and gave a performance that belied his age with a perfect portrayal of an elderly monk.
During his life the late actor temporarily paused acting while battling esophageal and stomach cancer. However, he returned to the stage in 2008 and consistently showed his passion for acting. Even in May 2023, shortly before the cerebral hemorrhage, he demonstrated his vitality by performing as Shakespeare at Yonsei University's open-air theater in the play A Midsummer Night's Dream.
His wife and children also followed acting careers, forming one of the entertainment industry's leading theatrical and acting families. His wife, Yoon So-jung, was revered as one of the theater world's matriarchs until she predeceased him in 2017 from sepsis. His daughter Oh Ji-hye is also an actress, and his son-in-law Lee Young-eun is a film director.<
