MBC 'Omniscient Interfering View' featured 'Chinese cuisine goddess' chef Park Eun-young and 'quirky sunbeam character' announcer Park So-young, revealing the surprising real-work lives hidden behind their personas.
The episode recorded a 4.1% household rating in the Seoul metropolitan area and a 2.5% rating among viewers aged 20-54, a key channel competitiveness indicator reflecting changes in the media consumption environment (provided by Nielsen Korea), making it first in its time slot by both Seoul metropolitan household and 20-54 ratings. Peak minute ratings reached 5.6%. Scenes that drew viewers included the episode revealing the next meeting between Yang Se-hyung and Park So-young, made possible by Yoo Byungjae's 'Cupid' antics, and announcer Park So-young cheerfully doing pantry management as the announcer bureau's 'office administrator' role. Park So-young's surprising charm, tackling everything passionately, produced both laughter and fluttering excitement and drove the peak minute ratings.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, the MBC variety show 'Omniscient Interfering View' (planning: Kang Young-sun; directors: Kim Yoon-jip, Jeon Jae-wook, Kim Hae-ni, Jung Dong-sik, Lee Da-woon; writer: Yeo Hyun-jeon) in its 387th episode first portrayed the day of Park Eun-young, a 15-year veteran Chinese cuisine chef who has even conquered variety shows with the 'Wanja queenka' meme. Having stamped her mark as the 'Chinese cuisine goddess' through 'black-and-white chef,' she is a disciple of Chinese cuisine master Lu Ching Lai and now leads a restaurant as an owner chef who has infused it with her own style. Head chef Yoon Joon-won reported, "Chef Park Eun-young's madness that keeps changing," about her, who has deliciously conquered variety shows and enjoys top popularity.
Park Eun-young lived with her identical twin older sister Park Eun-kyung. That day was the sisters' birthday, and the process of preparing a self-made birthday table was revealed. Although the twins' faces and voices were identical, their cooking DNA was polar opposites. While Park Eun-young quickly completed a mapo tofu soup, Park Eun-kyung's shaky knife skills and the subtle taste of her seaweed soup contrasted. But in the 'dance battle' over ILLIT's 'NOT CUTE ANYMORE' choreography that Park Eun-young was practicing, the sisters donned the exact same fierce gaze, surprising viewers. Yoon Joon-won's report, "When she danced at karaoke during company dinners and approached people it was so scary," added to the uproar of laughter.
But Park Eun-young was completely different at the restaurant. She exploded with the charisma of an 'Oner chef,' leading the kitchen and meticulously checking details until the end. The panelists repeatedly commented "That must be really delicious" at the mouthwatering menu born of Park Eun-young's skill and creativity, including her signature dongpa-yuk dumplings, gochujang butter jjajangmyeon, radish leaf fish stew, and sweet-and-sour pork with fig sauce. It was a moment when the 'professional' side hidden behind the laughter and madness was clearly revealed.
"Eun-young makes everything her own," Lu Ching Lai said, praising his disciple's stubbornness and perseverance, and their master-disciple chemistry radiated warm energy. The two visited the folk market they used to go to on every break when they worked together. Lu Ching Lai bought a bundle of teacups and dishes that perfectly matched his disciple's taste, and Park Eun-young secretly bought a Tibetan talisman, which her mentor said was expensive but could not take his eyes off, and gifted it, conveying their mutual affection. Such good teaching from a master was passed down to juniors. Park Eun-young warmly ended the segment by telling Yoon Joon-won, "Until you open your own place, I'll be the backdrop so you can fly freely."
Next, Director General Jeon Jong-hwan from the announcer bureau launched a report, and the buzzworthy subject discovered by 'Omniscient Interfering View,' Park So-young, appeared. Introducing Park So-young for the report, Jeon Jong-hwan described her as "a sunbeam character with runaway quirkiness," while praising that "when given work she does it persistently and doesn't make mistakes." True to that report, Park So-young demonstrated hexagonal abilities not only in her main job but across various fields. Though she is the announcer bureau's "prolific worker," she meticulously took notes on scripts and thoroughly prepared for broadcasts, and flawlessly carried out office administrator duties, managing the pantry and the office supplies budget. She even took on the announcer bureau's "home manager" role, memorizing seniors' snack preferences and passing them on to juniors. Although she had visited the emergency room three times, she never showed it and diligently performed her main job, an impressive fact. Recently, she stood out for seeking serious career advice from variety senior Kim Dae-ho, known for pursuing charm.
And finally, the pink-tinged romance with Yang Se-hyung reignited.
On that day's broadcast, announcer Park So-young's home was revealed: perfectly sharp organization, her seated posture in the recliner after waking, frugal household habits, storing ingredients in portions and taking care of her health — habits so alike Yang Se-hyung's that the studio buzzed like a decalcomania. Moreover, Park So-young revealed, "My ideal type is the funny Park Myung Soo," and while on her way to work she hummed a song with the suggestive lyric "I think I love you," sending the panelists' excitement level to its peak.
Park So-young then revealed behind-the-scenes stories of running with Yang Se-hyung that everyone has been asking about. The day after a heavy snowfall, Yoo Byungjae joined them to run together and they even had an afterparty. While Yoo Byungjae was criticized for that, when asked, "If the weather gets warmer, would you consider running together alone again?" both answered, "Yes." The teaser for their fourth meeting was an ending that exploded with excitement, making viewers eagerly await spring.
Meanwhile, next week on 'Omniscient Interfering View,' quant trader Lee Seong-hoon from Single's Inferno 5 will appear. Viewers will see his professional daily life traveling the global markets along with life moments that reveal his surprising charm. A reunion with members of Single's Inferno 5 is also promised. The recent update on Hwang Jae-gyun, who announced a new start, will also air. Having signed an exclusive contract with an agency and succeeded in "escaping unemployment," he reportedly starts his mornings at a CrossFit center and works out intensively with Kim Dong-hyun and Amotti. Added to this are his challenge at studio commentary and Jun Hyun-moo's surprise visit, promising unpredictable chemistry and raising expectations for next week's broadcast.
Omniscient Interfering View, which will air on the 7th (Sat.), will be broadcast on MBC at 11 p.m., a bit earlier than usual.<
