Actor Shin Hyun-joon attended a commemorative bell-ringing event held at Bosingak in Seoul for the 107th March 1st Anniversary and, together with actor Ko Doo-shim, read the Declaration of Independence.
On the morning of March 1, the event held around Bosingak in Jongno District, Seoul, was hosted under the theme "the cry of independence shouted together." Shin Hyun-joon took the stage as honorary mayor of Seoul and, in a cross-reading format with Ko Doo-shim, read the Declaration of Independence, reflecting on the historical significance of the independence movement.
In particular, Shin Hyun-joon is known to be from a family of Korean War (June 25) veterans, which made his attendance at this March 1st commemorative event even more meaningful. He has long emphasized the value of national veterans affairs, and on the stage that day he conveyed the sacrifices of the forebears and the meaning of freedom in a solemn voice.
At the event, the two actors read a declaration that contained the spirit and contemporary value of the March 1st Movement for about five minutes, sharing resonance with the citizens gathered at the scene. The declaration included the phrase "nothing in this world can bar our independence," symbolically conveying the will for independence and the value of freedom.
After the reading, all attendees shouted three cheers for independence together. They then completed a meaningful time honoring the spirit of independence by singing the "March 1st song" together and taking commemorative photographs.
Shin Hyun-joon said, "It was an occasion to once again engrave the meaning of March 1st deeply in my heart. Remembering the sacrifices and courage of those who devoted themselves to the country, including my father, a Korean War veteran, it became an opportunity to reflect on the values we must protect."
Meanwhile, the mayor of Seoul, the chair of the city council, the mayor of Jongno District, descendants of independence patriots and other key figures attended the event to jointly reflect on the meaning of independence.
