Super Junior member Shin Dong directly confessed to cutting ties with his parents. On the Disney+ original variety show "Wonyoung War 49," released on the 25th, Shin Dong calmly said, "I am not currently in contact with my parents. The reason is money."
He revealed, "When I gave them living expenses, they said, 'Not every month, give it all at once,' and when I gave them a large sum, they lost it all to fraud or failed investments." In fact, Shin Dong's mother was revealed to have lost her entire fortune in a failed investment in 2015.
In broadcaster Park Soo-hong's case, it is more extreme. His older brother, Mr. Park, who was prosecuted on charges of embezzling tens of billions of won in appearance fees and company funds, had a 3 years and 6 months prison sentence finalized by the Supreme Court, but during this process Park Soo-hong had to go to trial effectively estranged as family members, except the youngest sibling, sided with the older brother.
Mr. Park's wife was also found guilty of privately using the corporate card and received a one-year prison sentence with a two-year suspended sentence. The court pointed out that "internal oversight was weak because it was a family company, and trust between siblings was abused."
Actor Shim Hyungtak also suffered financial ruin due to his parents' failed investments. After succeeding as an entertainer, he bought a house and a scrap yard for his parents, but confessed that he had to sell even his Han River–view apartment due to bad investments. He revealed deep wounds, saying his mother failed to repay money she had borrowed in his name and he even faced a civil lawsuit.
Singer Jang Yoon Jeong is also a representative case who experienced conflict with her mother and younger brother over property issues. Jang Yoon Jeong said on a past broadcast, "My mother used the money I earned over 10 years as funds for my brother's business, and one day my bank account showed a negative 1 billion won balance," adding, "Because of that incident, my father suffered a stroke and my parents' divorce lawsuit followed."
