Singer Park Jae-jung revealed the behind-the-scenes story of how a duet with NMIXX member Seol-yun came about.
On the 27th, KBS 2TV music talk show The Seasons : 10CM's Pat-Pat featured Yangpa, Park Jae-jung, Lee Young-ji, and Damons year, gifting an unforgettable end to February.
Making a late-night music talk show outing for the first time in 14 years, Yangpa performed his debut song "Aesongi's Love," provoking the audience to sing along. Yangpa attributed his steadily improving singing to "vocal cord weakness, so I focus on image training and actually don't use my throat much," sharing the know-how born of experience. True to his reputation as a "rich source of classics," he delivered high-quality live performances of "A'D DIO (Adio)," "Sarang..geuge mwonde," and "Marry Me" on the spot, drawing admiration.
Yangpa, who made headlines last year by releasing his first full-length album in 18 years, revealed that he personally made a presentation to the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) to secure album production support. Yangpa recalled, "At the time I badly injured my ankle and had it in a cast, but since I am the company representative, I was the only one who could give the production support project presentation," and recounted how he persevered on crutches. Yangpa warmed the audience by performing "Beautiful boy," a track from his sixth full-length album Part.1 Homecoming, which captured music that grew by a notch as he moved between singer and producer.
Park Jae-jung, who was discharged from the military in November last year, appeared on The Seasons still disciplined from military life. Park Jae-jung revealed recent activities, saying, "I think I sang 'Don't Say We Should Break Up' about 200 days out of 365. Perhaps because of that I suffered vocal nodules and muscle tension dysphonia," and that after discharge he went to the hospital and a vocal academy. Excited to be back on stage after a long time, Park Jae-jung quipped, "I sharpened myself as if preparing for a concert," and "You won't find me bad today," showing distinctive confidence and drawing laughs. In particular, having served as a brass instrumentalist in the military band company, Park Jae-jung delighted the audience with a passionate trumpet performance.
Park Jae-jung then introduced his new song "Just As You Are," performed with Seol-yun of NMIXX. He said, "On a YouTube channel Seol-yun sang 'Don't Say We Should Break Up' and it became a big topic. Through that I suggested a duet to JYP, and she gladly accepted," recounting the duet's origin. Afterwards, Park Jae-jung proposed the "Just As You Are" challenge, having 10cm do push-ups while they competed in octave range, heating up the atmosphere. Finally, he presented for the first time the "Just As You Are" stage with a choir he had specially hired at his own expense just for The Seasons, delivering deep emotion.
Former The Seasons MC Lee Young-ji delivered consecutive performances from "Not Sorry" to "Day Night" and "Small girl," diving into the audience and showing concert-caliber stage manner. Returning to The Seasons a year after the end of "Lee Young-ji's Rainbow," Lee Young-ji playfully said, "Actually, this place is my home," sparking a mock rivalry. 10cm was unfazed and opened by saying, "Among the former MCs who have appeared, she is the most uncomfortable," then added the twist, "She was the MC I liked the most," which moved Lee Young-ji. Lee Young-ji continued to taunt 10cm by claiming the title of "youngest MC," and 10cm, befitting the "longest-serving MC," responded, "It's already the 24th recording," to laughs.
Lee Young-ji, who once again turned The Seasons upside down with sharp wit, showcased stormy rapping on site that made headlines when Mnet's "Show Me the Money" winner Cypher won, proving her prowess as a talent of her primary craft. 10cm expressed respect, saying, "Among 25-year-olds I know, she's the coolest," and the audience applauded. Switching into welcomed professional mode, Lee Young-ji pre-released the stage for her new song "ROBOT," her first in 1 year and 8 months, on The Seasons, heating up even the front row at home.
As the 17th subject of "Indie 30th anniversary project — Life music," singer-songwriter Damons year, who last year topped Spotify K indie/rock streaming, appeared and performed "yours." Shy in demeanor, Damons year said, "It's paradoxical, but I don't want to be known while I want my music to be known," voicing what many indie artists feel. About the song that made the current Damons year, "yours," he said, "It was the song I made with the least stress. It's surprising to me that a song I wrote lightly has been loved for so long."
Damons year introduced his musical world in a low but resolute voice. Asked why all his lyrics are entirely in Korean, he gave an original answer: "Lyrics are an artist's thoughts, and I don't think in English," and he performed an impromptu live of the line he likes most from the lyrics he wrote, from "josee!", "Like it's the last time we kiss and let's not grow old." Damons year left a deep impression to the end by singing "To a lover who didn't die," a song he feels is similar to the present-day "yours."
At the end of the broadcast, 10cm personally announced the season finale of The Seasons : 10CM's Pat-Pat and expressed regret. 10cm said, "It's already been six months since we've been with '10CM's Pat-Pat,'" and sincerely added, "I've prepared my final episode next week as a more special Friday night, so I hope many will come."
Meanwhile, the finale of the KBS 2TV music talk show The Seasons : 10CM's Pat-Pat will air Friday the 6th at 10 p.m. on KBS 2TV.
