Park Seojin puts on a sensational stage with "Bulbuk (fiery drum)" — the first performance in the 14-year history of "Immortal Songs."
KBS2's "Immortal Songs" (directed by Kim Hyung-seok and Choi Seung-beom / hereafter "Immortal Songs") is the undisputed top music variety show that has continued its history for more than 700 episodes. The 746th episode airing today (28) is "Immortal Songs - Artist Sul Woon-do episode part 2," which reinterprets the classic songs of the "trot legend" Sul Woon-do, who produced national hit songs such as "Samba's Woman," "Twist of Love," and "Cha-cha-cha for everyone."
In part 1 last week, five acts — Cheonrokdam, Lee Seung-hyun, Jeon Yujin, Son Tae Jin, and LUN8 (LUNATE) — competed, and Son Tae Jin, dubbed Sul Woon-do's adopted son, won the final victory with a record 424 votes. With only one next legend spot left, a total of five acts — Jadu, Kim Suchan, D82, Kim Sohyang X Yoon Hyung-ryul (the musical ANNA team), and Park Seojin — face off, heating up Saturday night with stages of epic scale.
Ahead of the competition, the artists set to succeed Sul Woon-do engage in a fiery pride battle to lavishly stage the next legend coronation. Jadu plans to start with a band session supported by flashy external performers such as stunt cheerleaders and locking dancers, saying, "I even broke into my insurance for this stage. In fact, I've never prepared for a stage this extensively before," expressing confidence.
Among them, Park Seojin teases a stage that will leave a mark on the 14-year history of "Immortal Songs," taking the heat to a peak. Park Seojin, who said the last time he lifted the winner's trophy on "Immortal Songs" was six years ago, added, "I brought the weapon I intended to use when I won. It's a performance no singer has attempted on 'Immortal Songs.' I prepared to the point of sacrificing my body," raising expectations.
Choosing Sul Woon-do's debut song "The lost 30 years," Park Seojin opens the piece with heartrending emotion matching the song's mournful melody, which sings of the pain of separated families, eliciting gasps. Soon the identity of Park Seojin's secret weapon is revealed: the "Bulbuk (fiery drum, a stage production that uses fire-lit drumsticks and large drums to show fiery trajectories and grand sounds simultaneously)." According to reports, every motion of Park Seojin's hand is accompanied by drum sounds that strike the heart and a spectacle of brilliant flames that captivates everyone on site.
In response to Park Seojin's stage, Le Chanwon said, "There have been many performances on 'Immortal Songs,' but the Bulbuk performance is the first," unable to hold his tongue, and Son Tae Jin reportedly gave a thumbs-up, saying, "Competing performers are always burdened by having to surpass themselves. But today Park Seojin seems to have done that." Expectations are soaring for the epic stage Park Seojin, reborn from "god of the janggu" to "god of Bulbuk," will present.
Meanwhile, "Immortal Songs - Artist Sul Woon-do episode" will visit viewers for two weeks, with part 1 having aired on the 21st (Sat) and part 2 airing today (28). "Immortal Songs," which creates legendary clips you want to watch again each episode, airs every Saturday at 6:05 p.m. on KBS2 TV.
