'Jun Hyun-moo plan 3' Actor Lee Gyu-hyung recalled his unknown days in Daehangno when he was paid 150,000 won a month and looked back on his acting life.
On the 27th episode of MBN 'Jun Hyun-moo plan 3', Lee Gyu-hyung naturally brought up past stories while visiting a Chuncheon restaurant known for the hanwoo specialty cut 'jebichuri'.
That day Lee Gyu-hyung said, "I started musicals at 22. I tried a Daehangno musical audition for the experience and I passed," describing the starting point of his acting. He added, "At that time I met actors Jo Woo-jin and Kim Sung-kyun in their 20s in Daehangno and worked together."
But life at that time was not easy. Lee Gyu-hyung said, "I was paid 150,000 won a month. It wasn't even enough for transportation," which surprised listeners. He said, "I kept doing plays in Daehangno and at 35 I tried film for the first time. But the film didn't go well so I returned to the stage and started again from the bottom," calmly recounting the long period of obscurity he endured.
He also expressed honest affection for why he cannot leave the musical stage. When Jun Hyun-moo asked, "Is there a reason you can't leave musicals?", Lee Gyu-hyung emphasized, "The catharsis felt on stage cannot be fulfilled anywhere else. Even performing the same role, my condition is different every time, and there is a feeling of breathing together as you exchange rhythm with the audience. It is not boring at all."
He especially expressed pride in the original musical 'Fan Letter.' He said, "This year it marked its 10th anniversary. It started in a small theater with fewer than 300 seats, went through Seoul Arts Center, and now has reached a 1,000-seat venue. I'm prouder because I have been with the work since the premiere. It's a work you will not regret watching," he said.
From the impoverished days of 150,000 won a month to the time he kept the stage and built his inner strength. Lee Gyu-hyung calmly reflected on the long journey to becoming an actor with a thousand faces and delivered a deep resonance.
