The group Namnyeogonghak and former Five Dolls member Her Chanmi is marking a new start with a 'trot queen' challenge. Known as a victim of 'evil editing' on audition programs, Her Chanmi this time rose to first place in the semifinals and is heading toward the final victory.
On the afternoon of the 26th, the comprehensive programming channel TV CHOSUN's 'Miss Trot 4' aired, revealing the fierce semifinal stage. With only five people able to advance to the final, the competition among the 10 contestants was even fiercer and harsher.
The person who drew the most attention on the semifinal stage that day was undoubtedly Her Chanmi. Her Chanmi chose Kim Sangbae's 'No, no' to perform. Although it could be difficult because it is a male vocal song, Her Chanmi overwhelmed the stage with stormy high notes and unwavering skill. She received praise from the masters for her meticulous expression and restrained charm.
Joo Younghoon said the rhythm and pitch were perfect, and Jang Yoon Jeong praised, "It seems to have not only improved but changed. You can't gauge how hard she studied." In the end, Her Chanmi received 100 points from the 10 masters and scored a high 1,585 out of a total possible 1,600 points.
As much praise poured in, she also enjoyed the joy of advancing to the final as the overall first-place finisher. Her Chanmi secured her place in the final by ranking first in the master scores and also taking first place in real-time text votes. Having been active in idol groups and appearing on well-known audition programs, this was Her Chanmi's first emotional first-place finish. It was the result of not giving up and working hard, having spent 10 years as a trainee.
After the broadcast, Her Chanmi posted on her SNS, "'Miss Trot 4' audition student Her Chanmi here. Yes! Namnyeogonghak, Five Dolls, 'Produce' Her Chanmi, that's me! I participated in 'Miss Trot 4' determined that it would be the last audition of my life, and for the first time ever I ranked first in cheering votes and first in the contest," she said, expressing her emotion.
Her Chanmi is already familiar to the public. She was active as an idol with Namnyeogonghak and Five Dolls, and in particular in 2016 she appeared on the cable channel Mnet's audition program 'Produce 101,' which drew attention. At the time, Her Chanmi attracted attention as an experienced idol who was consistently confident and candid, but she was also criticized by some viewers as a victim of so-called 'evil editing.'
In the end, Her Chanmi said on a broadcast in 2023, "My dream of debuting was crushed twice. After debuting, a big crisis came. It was when I went to the 101-person audition," saying she had a severe sore throat and was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules, but she could not change parts as the main vocal and ultimately made a pitch mistake on stage. Although she repeatedly explained in interviews that she had vocal cord nodules and asked for understanding, the fact was edited out, which became controversial.
Her Chanmi said, "I was shocked when I saw the broadcast. On screen, I was shown as someone who schemed to become the main vocal and then selfishly caused a pitch mistake. The pitch mistake scene was replayed three times and the broadcast ended like that," and she added, "I topped real-time search for five weeks. I was afraid and scared to meet people, developed social anxiety, and for about a year I lived with blackout curtains in my room. My mother checked on me every 30 to 40 minutes for fear I might do something bad," she said, shedding tears.
After 'Produce 101,' Her Chanmi acquired the negative label of being a 'victim of evil editing.' She then declared a new start by taking part in 'Miss Trot 4' as the last audition of her life. By advancing to the final in first place, Her Chanmi has opened the second act of her singing career as a new 'trot queen.'
