Actor Park Si-Hoo was the subject of fake news claiming he earned about 500 million won a month through TikTok Live, but this was confirmed to be untrue.
Earlier, on social media and online communities, a list of domestic entertainers who host TikTok Live broadcasts drew attention, and among them Park Si-Hoo stood out for his overwhelming popularity among Korean actors, with the content saying "there are talks that he earns 500 million won a month from TikTok Live". The post spread rapidly online, and unverified "Park Si-Hoo 500 million won revenue rumor" circulated like truth with comments such as "How does he really make 500 million?" "Interesting" "Oh, I didn't know this world existed, surprising" and "I'm jealous."
Speculative related articles poured out, and eventually Park Si-Hoo's side spoke up to clarify.
A close associate of Park Si-Hoo told OSEN on the afternoon of the 27th, "(To claim) monthly revenue of 500 million won from TikTok Live is ridiculous. It is completely unfounded," rebutting that the information circulating on some social media and online communities was fake news.
They also emphasized, "It's not that he earns hundreds of millions from TikTok broadcasts, but the main reason he does live streams is to communicate with overseas fans whom he cannot often meet."
Park Si-Hoo, who debuted in 2005 with the KBS drama 'Kkwaegeol Chunhyang' (Quick-witted Chun-hyang), went on to appear in numerous dramas including Iljimae, The Princess' Man, Prosecutor Princess, Cheongdam-dong Alice and My Golden Life. In particular, My Golden Life (2017), in which he co-starred with Shin Hae-sun, achieved a peak rating of 45.1%. Most of his works have been loved not only domestically but also overseas, establishing him as a Hallyu star popular in Japan, Indonesia and Australia, and many overseas fans also visit his TikTok Live broadcasts.
The close associate said, "Actor Park Si-Hoo is relatively popular overseas, so when he does live broadcasts many overseas fans come, but oddly (rumors such as that he makes 500 million won) have started circulating recently," and reiterated, "(While broadcasts can generate revenue) they do not earn that much income, and the claim that he earns hundreds of millions is really not true," expressing grievance.
Park Si-Hoo is currently preparing for the release of the film Karma, which he finished filming with Park Ho-san. The story depicts past misdeeds becoming a fatal karma that leads to the collapse of life, sharply pointing out problems with sentencing in major crime trials while deepening the story of the two male protagonists entangled in the yoke of karma and addressing the legitimacy of private punishment.
Meanwhile, Park Si-Hoo received praise for his fierce portrayal of a North Korean officer in the film The Band of God, released last December. Despite being a low-budget work, it exceeded the break-even point and wrote a miraculous comeback, drawing a cumulative audience of about 1.4 million.
