'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' Sunye recalls a past when she went through the deaths of several family members in succession at age 20 and endured a mentally difficult time.
On Feb. 27, KBS 2TV's 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' (hereinafter "Fun-Staurant") will feature new chef Sunye. The fairy of K-POP legend girl group Wonder Girls returns as a homestyle cooking fairy raising three daughters, and Sunye's everyday cooking life is expected to be revealed for the first time. In addition, Fun-Staurant's main broadcast is drawing attention as Sunye is set to reveal the great pain she experienced during Wonder Girls' activities in the U.S. in 2009 and the story of how that event changed the direction of her life.
In the VCR shown that day, Sunye began cooking after receiving a call that her aunt and uncle were coming to visit. Sunye's cooking skills, as she quickly and deftly prepared a tableful, captivated the eyes. Shortly after, Sunye's aunt and uncle appeared carrying gifts for Sunye wrapped in both hands as if they were her birth parents. Sunye, her aunt and her uncle ate together and began talking about past stories.
Wonder Girls, who rose to intense popularity as a national girl group and were the first girl group to be active even in the United States. While they were busiest in the U.S. in 2009, Sunye received the shocking news that her father was gravely ill. Sunye recalled, "My father lived for 20 years with almost no lung function, and as all his organs gradually lost function, he eventually passed away."
Sunye's aunt and uncle recalled that time and said, "Sunye, on the phone from the U.S., said, 'You must keep him alive until the end.'" However, contrary to Sunye's aching heart, her father passed away. Sunye's aunt, tearfully conveying the father's last request, said, "At that time your father asked me for something," and Sunye, hearing her aunt's story for the first time, also shed tears.
During the period when she shone the brightest, enjoying global fame as a singer, Sunye lost precious people as her grandfather and then her father passed away, and she conveyed that she mentally collapsed at the time, saying, "Anyone would…" which saddened everyone. She then expressed gratitude for her aunt and uncle who have remained by her side to this day, saying, "To me they are like another mother and father."
