Actor Baek Sung-hyeon will appear as the male lead in the musical "Eyes of Dawn."
On the 27th, OSEN reported that Baek Sung-hyeon will meet audiences as the male lead, Choi Dae-chi, in the musical "Eyes of Dawn."
"Eyes of Dawn" adapts the popular drama that aired as MBC's 30th anniversary special from 1989 to 1990 and recorded a peak viewership rating of 58.4% into a musical. It premiered in early 2019 and was nominated for best musical at the Korea Musical Awards; it compresses the original 36-episode work into six acts, densely portraying events of modern and contemporary Korean history from the Shanghai Incident to the Jeju April 3 Incident, spanning from the Japanese colonial period to the period immediately after the June 25 War.
Among them, Baek Sung-hyeon will take on the role of the male lead Choi Dae-chi. He is triple-cast with Kim Joon-hyun and Jung Si-uk. The character, famously portrayed by actor Choi Jae-seong in the original drama, is depicted as a strong-willed figure who endures major upheavals in modern and contemporary Korean history and navigates various turning points.
In particular, Baek Sung-hyeon is also appearing in the KBS historical drama "Munmu," scheduled to air later this year, signaling an active year. While filming for "Munmu" is in full swing, he is expected to expand his filmography with the musical "Eyes of Dawn."
Moreover, Baek Sung-hyeon's performance is especially meaningful as it comes nine years after the 2017 staging of the play "Josee, the Tiger and the Fish." In the intervening years, Baek Sung-hyeon married flight attendant Jo Da-bom, who is two years his junior, and they welcomed a first daughter and a second son, building a family. Expectations are high that he will show a more mature stage performance.
"Eyes of Dawn" opened on the 24th and is meeting audiences at Converse Stage Arena in Dongjak District, Seoul. The production runs through Apr. 26, and Baek Sung-hyeon is scheduled to appear on stage beginning with the March performances.
