The film "The King's Warden" reached 7 million cumulative viewers.
On the 27th, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) integrated box office network, "The King's Warden" drew more than 370,000 viewers in a single day to hold the No. 1 box office spot. Accordingly, its cumulative attendance also surpassed 7 million.
On the same day, distributor SHOWBOX also posted on its official social media, "'The King's Warden' surpasses 7 million viewers" and said, "Because of the endless box office enthusiasm for team The King's Warden, the story of 1457 will no longer be lonely."
"The King's Warden" is a work set in 1457 Cheongnyeongpo about a village head who volunteered for exile to revive the village and a young former king exiled from the throne, and it opened on Feb. 4 and surpassed 7 million cumulative viewers in 23 days. It is only about 3 million viewers short of becoming this year's first 10-million-attendance film.
As the box office fever heated up, director Jang Hang-jun's pledge to reach 10 million viewers has also been reexamined. He appeared last month on SBS Power FM's Bae Seong-jae's Ten and said, "There is no way it will reach 10 million, but if, hypothetically, it does, I will change my phone number, change my name and have plastic surgery," making a sensational pledge.
He added, "So no one can recognize me. I'll naturalize elsewhere. Istanbul is not a country, but... I hope they don't look for me."
With only about 3 million viewers left until director Jang Hang-jun's 10-million pledge, attention is focused on whether "The King's Warden" can become this year's first 10-million-attendance film.
