'Dad and I season 3' Im Hyeong-ju expressed hurt feelings toward his mother.
On the 25th broadcast of TV CHOSUN 'Dad and I season 3', Im Hyeong-ju and his mother were shown meeting Yoon In-kyung, a longtime acquaintance who has been with Im Hyeong-ju since his debut and a former journalist-turned-writer.
That day Yoon In-kyung congratulated Im Hyeong-ju on his inauguration as chairman of the Yongsan Cultural Foundation and asked his mother, "What kind of congratulations did you give?" The mother replied, "What congratulations? I drove him here. From the cultural foundation to here."
Im Hyeong-ju said, "Originally she said she couldn't come without notice, but she came before receiving the appointment certificate. It's surprising she came," and the mother said flatly, "I normally don't go (to my son's award ceremonies)." Surprised, Yoon In-kyung urged, "Still, you should praise him."
Then Im Hyeong-ju revealed his feelings, "At this appointment ceremony I said I was a little nervous. She could have said I can do well, but even that she said, 'What's there to be nervous about?' She talked like that. It means to be bold, but in some ways it makes me feel more hurt."
Especially saying he does not build tolerance to his mother's indifference, Im Hyeong-ju said, "No matter how much the world recognizes me or how favorably others view me, if I don't get recognition at home, at some point it all seems meaningless," which drew sympathy.
He continued, "What is deeply embedded in my heart is that when my mother criticizes me it intersects with the past. She says, 'That's why you don't have people around you,' 'That's why people get tired of you.' Tears well up," he lamented.
Im Hyeong-ju added, "If my mother recognized me even a little, I really wouldn't have anything to talk about to others," and confessed, "I am wary even with people I meet for the first time. Even so, when people come to me they heap praise on me. If it happens twice, I fall completely."
Hearing this, Yoon In-kyung said, "You're the type who's easy to be scammed," and Im Hyeong-ju shocked everyone by saying, "When I calculated the money I was cheated out of, I was ripped off for 80 million won."
Yoon In-kyung acted as a mediator between Im Hyeong-ju and his mother, saying, "You were raised getting a lot of praise. If your mother omits praise you feel hurt. (Im Hyeong-ju's) mother had a long-term plan. After the mother passes away, what is there for you to feel hurt about?"
Im Hyeong-ju, in tears, said, "Lately I've been thinking that for several years the only person around me who can nag like that is my mother." The mother could not hide her embarrassment, asking, "What's wrong?"
Contrary to Im Hyeong-ju's thoughts, the mother revealed her doting side by looking at her son brightly in unseen places and praising him in front of others. Yoon In-kyung advised, "You should not doubt that," and said, "Parents and all human relationships should be relationships that embrace, not refine."<
