'You Quiz on the Block' former 4Minute member Heo Ga-yoon drew attention by confessing personal matters.
On the 25th episode aired on tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereafter 'You Quiz'), actor Park Jihoon from the film The King's Warden, 2026 Milano·Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics snowboard silver medalist Kim Sang-kyum, and 4Minute main vocalist Heo Ga-yoon appeared.
Snowboard silver medalist Kim Sang-kyum, the winner of Korea's 400th Olympic medal, was truly a man who achieved indomitable challenges. Kim Sang-kyum recalled his first appearance, saying, "When I competed at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, it was a course you couldn't ride in Korea. The skill gap was too wide. The level was incomparable to foreign athletes. It took a long time to adapt." After competing in four Olympics and finally winning a silver medal, everyone applauded his efforts.
His father, a person surnamed Kim who supported Kim Sang-kyum by farming potatoes and cabbage in spring and fall and running a snowboard rental shop in winter, said, "I thought it would be fine if he just reached the Olympic quarterfinals. I even prayed at my father's grave. But it's such an honor that he gave me a medal," and added, "I wish I could have supported him more freely; I'm sorry I couldn't do more and proud of him." This father is currently being treated for stage 3 stomach cancer.
Kim Sang-kyum said, "He didn't tell me. When I returned after the match, he told me it was stage 3 stomach cancer. He used to be robust, but he had become very thin. He said it had been a month since his stomach surgery," tearing up. His father, a person surnamed Kim, who had two-thirds of his stomach removed and underwent chemotherapy eight times, said, "Thanks to the medal, recovery seems faster. I think I will be cured," and added, "When my son comes home to visit, I want to grill meat and talk," showing a tender fatherly side.
Meanwhile, former 4Minute member Heo Ga-yoon appeared. Known to have lived in Bali for three years, she showed up as a healthy, brilliantly shining Heo Ga-yoon, different from her sleek idol singer days.
However, there were many events before Heo Ga-yoon stayed in Bali and before her expression changed so much. First, she lived fiercely competing as a trainee from age 14, debuted after six years, but things did not go well after the group disbanded seven years later. She was even physically abused as a trainee but endured it silently for her debut. Having never failed to make efforts, she also failed to successfully switch to acting after the group's disbandment. While sharing stories, the older brother who had been with her suddenly fell ill, faced surgery, and passed away.
Amid this, Heo Ga-yoon, who suffered from bulimia alone while learning about her condition, felt sorrow and anguish at her brother's death. She also felt her body deteriorate. Heo Ga-yoon said, "So I went to Bali. I bought a ticket immediately and went, saying we'll go for two months." The age she left was the same age her brother died.
Heo Ga-yoon revealed her life in Bali, saying, "I don't do much in Bali. I get up very early and surf as soon as I wake up. The waves are good at 6 to 7 a.m. I eat with friends, then go surfing again or do personal workouts. Then I eat dinner and go to bed early. I get up around 4 a.m." She said that from that nothingness and simply existing in nature, she gained awakening thanks to her brother.
Tears welled up, but Heo Ga-yoon ultimately smiled and firmly answered with a face that showed what hope was, "From now on, if there is something I want to do, I will try living it without hesitation and challenge myself without fear."
