New singer Koi (COII, hereafter Koi) not only graced the cover of Spotify's "K-R&B Now" upon debut, but is also taking an experimental step by releasing a demo version of her next single "1979 blue" ahead of the official release.
Koi will pre-release the demo version of "1979 blue" today (26th). Koi's intention, reflected in this move, was to share the pure emotions within the "process" of creating the song with listeners rather than the "result" of an official track.
As an artist aiming for "vulnerable core," which sings of Gen Z's vulnerability and honesty, she intends to reveal without restraint the raw but fervent sincerity hidden beneath the polished finished track.
The demo version of "1979 blue" consists solely of a single piano and Koi's guide vocal, which captures the breath before the formal recording, offering a heightened sense of immersion. Rather than a finely engineered studio vocal made for the final track, the vocal track, written as if sketching the primal form of the emotion, more transparently displays the intimate mood from the moment the song was born.
The demo's unique air that cannot be reproduced by processed sound, combined with Koi's distinctive warm tone, provides listeners with a special sense of presence as if they are sitting across from the artist in the studio.
While the debut single "typing" captured the clumsy heart that repeatedly wrote and erased messages, this song deals with the alienation felt amid flashy social media feeds and algorithms, and the modern loneliness of not finding someone to share one's heart with despite countless contacts.
In particular, it explores the dual emotions of people who both like and dislike being alone, who feel comfortable yet lonely, using irony as a key theme.
This demo version, with a sound like quietly murmuring alone in an empty room, offers a raw texture instead of precise studio recording, amplifying the authenticity of the emptiness and loneliness within relationships.
Broken Hearts Social Club, which planned and produced the track, said, "If the officially released main track will be a musical experience of perfect sound, this demo version is the emotional raw gem itself from when Koi first encountered the song," adding, "We wanted to create a special narrative in which the song is completed when listeners fill in their own impressions after hearing the demo version."
Listeners are expected to have a unique experience comparing the demo version of the same song with the later-released main track. This is likely to become an opportunity for artists and fans to share the musical growth process and build deeper emotional bonds.
Koi (COII), attracting attention for her experimental approach, plans to continue demonstrating her distinctive sensibility through various musical activities.
